Description PASTELS! *PUNCH*

This was my test to see how fast I can do an artpiece with my thumb. Good and bad news. Good news was that this took no more than a week to finish (by then I was nearly done with my other piece that I did). Bad news is that my thumb is kinda strained, lol. But its not doing too bad, so I'm on the road to recovery! I might start up on commissions soon.

In other news, behold yet ANOTHER animated obsession for me! I saw "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" a few weeks ago and its been taking over my mind ever since. This movie was just so many different shades of awesome, it was a veritable Da Vinchi of animation. It was a WHOLE lot better than I went in expecting it to be. And for the first time ever, an animated film beat out the residing Pixar film for my favorite animated film of the year. "UP" was great and all but this...was just way better. More my cup of tea anyways.

And behold my new OTP, Flint Lockwood and Sam Sparks! I keep saying I don't consider myself much of a romantic, but these two were just so cute together, even before they met in the movie. I've also said this before; I LOVE inventor geeks!! And Flint has managed to hyperactivly twirl his way up towards the top. I don't say this about guys much, but he's just so gosh darn CUTE. WHERE'S MY FLINT, DANG IT??

Anyways, I chose to make my speed art of CwaCoM to hopefully help appease the obsession gods in my head. The only real cure will be when the DVD comes out and I can watch it till the obsession abates, but this will have to do in the meantime; I'm too broke to see it any more in the theaters (have seen it three times). Although I do have a little sister who works as a manager for a theater...and there's a three dollar theater also in the area...hm...

While I LOVED the movie's art style, I couldn't copy it quickly enough for my experiment, so I just tried to adapt the characters for my own style. Worked out pretty well. I was expecting Flint's hair to be super hard, but it wasn't too challenging (except for the shading; that was a killler, lol). What was hardest was his facial shape and mouth; it took ages to get it in my style and still look characteristically Flint. Sam's shoulders came out a little wide and her hips a little small though...but oh well. Flint himself is actually a little tall himself, but the lanky look really fits for my style and himself anyways. Sam's trousers were supposed to have that striped texture, but after several attempts I gave that up. Might try again using the burn and dodge tools, I love them.
And I have to say I just LOVE Flint's hair. Total fun, lol. I also tweaked Sam's a bit; its still the ponytail she has for the last half of the movie, but I have a hairdresser for a mom and she has resulted in a hairdresser in my head. My head hairdresser had problems with Sam's short bangs going perfectly into a ponytail cause MY hair never behaves like that; and if mine won't no one else's will gosh darn it, lol.

Background was sorta inspired by the ice cream scene, but I didn't want anything too complicated. So while I could have done some vector ice cream scoops, I just did a bunch of pastel circles and had fun with the burn and dodge tools. The characters aren't really in any situation; they're just kinda in some zero-g hangout. XD I was just doing random poses.

Also threw Flint's pet/friend monkey Steve in, just cause Steve almost always goes where Flint is, and I wanted to see if I could draw a monkey. I don't like monkeys much, they have too much sick humor surrounding them in movies, but this monkey was kinda cute (with that one exception). Also they did a great job of translating what a monkey would probably think.

Funny story: I was trying to draw this mainly from memory, but realized I had to use references because I couldn't remember ever seeing what shoes Flint wore. Needless to say when I saw them I had to smack myself in the face with Duh, and if you've seen the movie you'll understand why they should have been obvious, lol.

CwaCoM is copywrited to Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures, etc. PASTEL PUNCH!

One of my more colorful pics, that's for sure. ^_~ That whole movie was just so colorful anyways, it had to reflect in artwork.
