BLAST YOU ARTWORK. -_- And YOU! Graphics tablet pen! You breaking on me didn't help!*throws tablet pen and artistic integrity out the window*
OK! Anyways, this is the commission I've been working on for, like, two weeks now. Why? Well first, I couldn't get the anatomy in the lineart to work for the life of me. I ended up sending rough scans to my friend to beg for help. She gave me some really good suggestions, and 5 hours later I gave up and decided to work with what I had. I was able to do most of the changes, but if there are still anatomical issues with this pic, they're not my friend's fault; its cause I can only spend so long on the digital lineart before I go nuts.
And the problems didn't stop there. In the middle of shading, my graphics tablet pen broke on me. Not completely, but enough to make working with it a ROYAL PAIN. I'd almost wish it would just kick the bucket and be done with it already, so I'd have a decent excuse to just ditch my artwork and take a break. But no...it has to work SPORATICALLY, which is good enough for me to ATTEMPT art, but not good enough for me to make any decent headway in a reasonable amount of time. Hence, this taking two weeks.
Enter my buddy to bail me out again, lol. She has a MUCH better understanding of vectors and Photoshop Illustrator than I do, so I subcontracted her to do the webbing. I added all the fun glowy effects, but its her brilliant vectoring that gave me the shape to begin with. And gosh, that is a cool web.
OK, enough about how this commission was the hardest yet, what about the scene? I GOT TO DRAW HUMANFORM BLACK ARACHNIA!! See, one by one, I'm getting the Decepticons done! Actually, I think I'm about ready to tackel the Decepticon group shot now. I'll do that soon.
But about BA. I've noticed that while there are may seriously cool takes on her humanform in DA, I have yet to see one that actually takes into account the fact that she's kinda, well...NOT normal. The whole point of her character conflict is that she's a half-spider, half-organic robot. I can't play up the half-organic angst if I'm turning her human, but I CAN play up the half-spider bit. Hence her spiderish nature.
I...really didn't know what to do for an outfit though. She kinda already looks like she's wearing one in the series, but it really wouldn't work in human form. Mainly because I don't see how she can keep such little fabric on her when she's not anatomically built completely human-like. So I made a few adjustments, plus made it less armor/robot-like. I was gonna go with a total goth-lolita style, but it kinda looked silly. Maybe I'll try it later, with a lot less lolita.
My commissioner (who wants to remain anonymous) wanted an Optimus/BA pic in my style with my humanformers. Now, to get one thing straight, I LOVE the canon TFA human Optimus; he rocks. Looking like his voice actor is a bonus. But I'll draw what my commissioners tell me, and I like drawing my Op anyways. He's awesome. Also, I was excited about designing BA herself. Yes, those ARE functional red eyes on her forehead, they're just a little weirder than her main set. I'm not sure if the rest of her facial design is facepaint or a tattoo...but I was incorperating her helmet, so whatever. She DOES have the weird mandibles also, but they're under her hair on the sides of her face.
This pic also kinda sums up Op's and BA's relationship to me. She's always got him in some sort of mess, and tends to act like she knows what she's doing even when she doesn't. She's also a shameless flirt, and poor Boy Scout Op doesn't really know how to handle that. Even more confusing, he doesn't seem to know what he should even think of her. He knows deep down is that old friend of his who is a good person, but this new side of her is too hurt and damaged sometimes for him to reach through. And so, they have this love-hate thing going (with most the hate coming from her, really). She hates/blames everything for her freakish nature and will do anything to go back to being normal. Op wants to believe in her, but he definitely doesn't trust her entirely, and with good reason. He may be caught up in her web of lies, but he still has one hand free to go for his axe if he needs it.
Hence the title. These two are more tangled than anything else in this show.
EDIT: Someone noticed this, and I forgot to mention it, so I'll bring it up now. I changed Op's pants back from the chaps from the last pic. Why? Too many people thought it was weird. I'm still torn on the issue, but I'll listen to fans. What do you all think still? Any fans of the chaps that want to speak on their behalf?
...And I have a friend who doesn't watch this show, but will HATE this character just from this pic, lol. She's a shameless flirt, a brat, and a spider.
...And I have another friend (also doesn't watch) who will love her for all the same reasons, lol. My friends rock.
TFA belongs to Hasbro and Cartoon Network. May their lawyers be put at ease.

I think you captured their relationship very, very well. That's what I adore about this particular pairing in TFA, there's already enough drama that you can write fics without needing to make that much more.
And even though I wouldn't have kept the thorax (I think that's the correct term for that part. >.> It's been awhile since I've dealt with arachnids), but overall I do really like your design for BA. It's quite original and I love it.

Don't normally go for the "humanformers," but I love Arachnia here
