Description
First theme for Zutara week 2011! Masks!Instead of focusing on the blue spirit and painted lady, I split zuko and kataras personality's. The face they show to the world - zuko = anger and katara = confidence is not necessarily their true face. Their true feelings of hurt and fear are hidden inside themselves, and so they present a 'mask' of themselves to other people.
I suppose this is because they have had to grow up so quickly that most of their childhood was taken away from them due to the war, the loss of their mothers and other things. Zuko got burned so young and then banished that he had to hide his feelings for the sake of focusing on finding the avatar. Kataras mother died and so Katara herself stood up and had to look after the tribe in her place, having to push away her feelings and be the confident figure she is shown to be.

Yes I have said that so many times that zuko and Katara both hide them selfs and only show there true feelings when around eachother, any way I love it great job

Beautiful. And I love the explanation. Oddly enough, I did something quite similar, but at little different. Either way, both are equally observant thoughts and I really like that you went more in depth than most of the art for today. ^-^

You're very welcome. ^-^ I mostly write fanfiction, not so much fantart except for this week, really, so I have to go in depth w/ the characters or else it feels...weak, not realistic, you know? Yes, they're both similar and yet different in such ways that it's the perfect "Opposites attract" pairing on the planet. No matter how many other fandoms I join and how many pairings I fall in love with, Zutara will forever be my OTP. *sigh* ^_-

Yes I love t write fan fiction as well but atm I have a writers block XD I have written just one zutara fanfic but I hope to write more for them in the future ^^ As for my OTP I have 2 of them lol I know im not allowed but I love both of them the same, my fav couples are zutara and ulquihime from bleach xxxxx

I started writing one fanfic that was going to have Zutara in it, but it was one of my firsts many many years ago. It sucked. I've also written a one-shot that still needs to be typed up and posted, but it has hintings of Zutara...though it focuses on how the hell those two stay w/ whom they do. It's an interesting study, honestly. ^_- It's fine, sometimes I say that MelloxMatt from Death Note is my OTP, though it's debatable in my head all the time.

Ohhh sounds pretty cool, kataang and maiko will be in my 'secret' theme but its not going to be original since it'll be the whole forbidden love zutara thing. Honestly I just dont get kataang and maiko, though I understand why they stay together and stuff, I just dont think that the chemistry is right.
Besides going into chemistry, water and fire = liquidy hot romance wich is epic XD
Ah death note is awesome! Interesting choice for couples, Matt was amazing, but his death was so sad and so quick, I wish we could have seen more of him

Even in my one-shot, Kataang isn't fully explained. I just...couldn't figure it out. I can give you a sneak preview of why Maiko can actually work: She balances out Zuko and his moodiness. Even Katara says that he has enough emotions for the two of them. ^_- She's his rock, sort of. It makes sense, though I still hate it. XP
Water + Fire = steamy hot romance. XD ^_-
He was scene even less in the anime than the manga, which pisses me off! The good thing is that while he's a pretty blank character, w/ almost no development, there seems to be a fandom-wide agreement on his personality, which is nice. I just love those guys together...((And yet I write more LxLight? I honestly do not know why.))

I suppose in that sense Maiko works but I just think that Zuko doesn't necessarily need someone who trys to understand him, just someone who automatically does because they have been through it themselves. Like Katara *wink, wink*
As for Kataang, the way I see it is that it would be too perfect. Too happy and dandy, most likly they would never fight and their life would be fine. I myself wouldnt find that to be satisfying, and I dont think Katara would either, plus shes too mature in herself for him, they seem more brother and sister XD lol not a ember island players reference, its just my opinion.
Most definiatly Zuko and Katara would fight but most of the time I think it would be playful banter and not serious.
As for Matt I always think of him playing Grand theft auto when he goes and has that car chase XD He was sooo cool ^^
I dont like L and Light together but at least they are better than Light and Misa, I cant stand her, shes so annoying! xx

I never said that it was better that way for Zuzu, just that that seems to be the way it would work for those two. Katara still seems better. Yes, that have been through a lot of similar things while Mai grew up getting everything she wanted ((as long as she was the perfect daughter of a politian)).
In the one-shot, Katara makes their relationship work by letting him go off on his own all the time while she stays at home. I know, it's weird. It's explained better in the story. You're right; they'd be way too puppy-love and never reaching beyond that into the deeper love and connection Zutara has.
Their fighting would be one of their perks. It blows off steam and...it's entertaining. Haha, sorry, but actually one of my other fave pairings is based off non-stop fighting. ((South Park: Kyle/Cartman ->Kyman))
Definately one of the most kick-ass characters that should have been given more air-time.
Misa and Near should just find a nice place to curl up and die. -_-;

Ah I didnt mean you thought it was better, I meant in the mind of of a Maiko fan. And dont worry pairings that fight are entertaining, if you've ever watched maid sama misaki always yells at usui and its sooooo funny XD

It's okay. Punch punch kiss couples, or whatever they're called, are honestly the best. I did start watching that, but need to finish it...after I finish a lot of other things needing finishing. Haha!
The only way that Near and/or Mello could beat L was through working together. They were each based after him and thus were only a part of him - the robotic and the human sides. Which then goes into my theories on Matt and how he should be the true successor...if he actually tried. XP

I guess thats another reason why Near is always holding a robot lol (although in L change the world its because L gave it to him) Yeah Matt really had potential, god it be great if they gave his back story or something in a spin off, it would be awesome! x

L: Change the World isn't totally cannon. At least, the movie isn't, since Near looks nothing like that and he's older than that and blah blah blah...But the book...doesn't have the robot-giving because it is canon. ^_-
That would be flipping sweet, but first the Another Note movie or anime that I wish for every time I make a wish. ((And if Ken'ichi Matsuyama played both BB and L...*drools*)) But yes, a Matty spinoff would be nice. I guess we'll just have to stick to fanfiction, won't we? *sigh* Haha. Also, the fact that he wore a black and white striped shirt, while Near wore white and Mello wore black is another tip-off...^_-

Definetly a different take on Masks, but not completely original. A fic I just read involved Zuko wearing a mask on the anniversary of his moms "death"
