is it less washed out on paper? it's really well done, but I'd suggest to keep adding layers... of shading

the scanner completely obliterated the lighter pencil shading.. what is here is the darkest - though it doesn't look that way.
The original has more layers and depth .... thanks, though

thats what I thought... arg... well I'm glad it does cause it looks like it needs more shading, but is still beautiful so it's probably amazing

Beautiful work!! I love the simplicity that gives it such reality. I knew it was either an Andalusian or a Lippizaner as soon as I caught a glimpse of the piece while browsing. The details of the ear and eye are exquisite, but the muzzle seems to taper too quickly. Or maybe it's that the shadow of the underside of his muzzle is hidden by the reins. But, I say that only cause you asked for constructive criticism! I love it.

Thanks And yes!! I completely agree. The reference photo had a dark shadow on the underside of the head and muzzle which it made it very difficult in that respect - especially since it's an area that I need to practice for realism as it is. My eyes and ears are getting much better, I thought, so many thanks!
