For whatever reason, that quote feels like it applies. So often horses are stuffed into a hole that defines them as creatures whose sole objective is survival. That may be so on an instinctual level, but then isn't that true of us all? Like those of us who rise above the norm, I have seen horses who defy our preconceptions and rise above. Like us, horses have self-expression, individuality. There are those that do* rise above and seem to make more of what they have and are. In an existence where they live, essentially, as our prisoners, it is extraordinary to witness a horse with a sense of self and imagination; but were they not under our "management", as it were, we would never have had the opportunity to see it.

But yes...
I think Salvatore's my new favourite author... Brilliant language, intriguing insight... always. So often do his dark elves inspire deeper thought into one's own existence and purpose.
