Description
Had a strange itch to draw some Fauns. It’s been a while but here’s little Faun stuff. May draw some more in the future.Lore: I mentioned them briefly here (fav.me/dc15zea ) but Fauns are followers/children of Faunus (god of forests, plains, and fields). They are often depicted as half man with the lower portion of a goat along with a pan flute. Their greek counterparts were the satyrs, though less lustful and more jovial.
Head cannon: The current Fauns are late descendants of Faunus and had been carrying a generational task of remaining in the woods to protect those that live and breathe in it. As a result, most of their power stems from the environment around them with horns and eyes being a large indicator of the untapped and uncorrupted magic in them. They are wild and free spirited in nature, unbound to follow the mortal’s “laws” and having an extended lifespan of 150 years. Additionally, some are blessed with the vision of foresight, allowing them to predict events shortly to come.
Many Fauns live in small, “family” herds consisting of 10-15 members. Though there are females living amongst the herds, the ratio of male to female is staggeringly different with a 80/20 ratio. This is largely due to male offspring being likely produced and the inability to mingle well with other races like the nymphs of the forest, compared to their Satyr counterparts. Nymphs, in the eyes of the fauns, are friends that are not to be harmed in any form of fashion as they are fellow residents of the forests.
However, this does not fully prevent any hybrid offspring. Though uncommon, hybrids are children successfully produced with one faun parent and one non-faun. This may be a result of Fauns intermingling with human affairs out of curiousity. Do note, that many hybrid offspring that are produced and survive are infertile and have a difficult time living amongst human and faun kind.
