Description Here's a popular mythical creature, although lately it has been mixed with the mermaid myth. No! Please stop, they're not the same. If you guys would like me to talk about the mermaids later, let me know. For now here's the Siren's portion

-Also I did not know marker turns black marker into blue.

Myth:
Sirens were originally the servants of Persephone before her capture by Hades. In Demeter's desperate attempts to find her daughter, she transformed the servants to have wings and search the skies for their mistress. Other accounts say she cursed the servants for failing to protect Persephone. (There's also depictions of male sirens although they've slowly been erased from lore.)

They are most commonly associated with luring sailors to their deaths. Their voices were depicted to be melancholic and known to entrance the sailors who drowned themselves while attempting to reach to them. If a Mortal overcame the singing of the Siren when the song finishes, the Siren(s) will have no choice but to drown themselves. (Dramatic but ok!)

Three accounts/ myths have a group of people defeating the Sirens. Most well known is Odysseus and his crew, the Argonauts, and the Muses.
-Odysseus had his men put wax in their ears while Odysseus was tied to the ore
-Orpheus played his lyre to counteract the singing
-Muses won against the Sirens in a singing competition and plucked the sirens' feathers to wear as a crown. (Ok...)

Head cannon
Sirens have not changed much from their myths. However, I'd like to interpret that the servants when first transformed had wings and feet of a bird, but still retained most of the human like form, as laters arts depicted them to looking human with some minor bird features. When Demeter found out of Persephone's fate, she cursed them into the common woman with bird body form.

In this form, the Sirens have lost most of their humanity along with their morality. They are more malicious in their attacks, singing against any friend or foe. Unlike the harpies, They use their instincts rather than strategy.

Diet: Sirens don't need to eat as often as other creature as they will not die from starvation. If they do, their diet is mostly fish or meat.

Personality: As stated before, Sirens are very malicious. They only remember that they were wronged and believe everyone is an ally of Demeter. Strangely enough, Sirens hate to be dirty and preen themselves regularly to retain a youthful glow.

Threat Level: 4 (Sirens don't trust anyone and are very deceptive in terms of appearance and singing. Best to avoid them unless you know what to do).

This is really cool! I see sirens depicted as being fish instead of birds a lot, and I never quite made the connection with mermaids XD I wonder how that came about?

The two share similiarities due to being depicted as beautiful, found in oceans, and most importantly, singing is associated with both. I'm sure somewhere in history, the two were merged by poets like the Satyrs vs Fauns. (Doesn't help Hollywood plays an influence, cough. Did I say that?)
