All Korean terms are defined in the description box.
You hold on tightly to your purse and listen to the still sounds of the night. A bush rustles, a bird squeaks, cars honk. A symphony of noises, all uniting into one unsettling harmony: The Walking Alone on a Friday Night Waltz in F Minor.
While everything might seem like the instrument is in perfect condition - BAM - a string breaks, the pedal doesn't work, wood breaks. Just like a musicians greatest fear is to play the wrong note, the uncertainty of what lurks around the next corner scares you to the bone.
You've heard the stories of young ladies like your self being preyed on by others with nothing better to do than to hear the painful screams drowning into the darkness of the night. Lately there had been many cases of abused women being reported on the news. Some one now dubstretcher "The Titan" by police authorities. He cornered his targets, beat them senseless, and raped them.
Shivering at the thought, you shake your head and push the images of the girls in hospitals. He pulled knives on some of the stronger ones. Why didn't I take an Über? you ask yourself.
Thankfully, you are almost home and in the clearing. The hairs on the back on your neck stand up and start to scream as goosebumps dot your skin and run down your spine. A breeze that is too cold for the summer evening blows under your skirt. The voice is bitter and deep.
"Such a pretty little thing, what are you doing alone at night?"
You freeze in your spot, your muscles not daring to obey the stressed commands coming from your mind. He's here. He's here. What did I do? I didn't do anything. No.
Before you have the chance to break into a run, hands are on your shoulders and there is a husky breath beating on you steadily. "Come on now, dove. You can't leave just yet. Fine not quite begun." His hands slither down to your waist and grip you tightly.
Sick to the stomach, you spit, "You're pathetic. Can't even get a woman properly without forcing yourself into her." And with that you scream bloody murder. If someone hears you, they can call the cops and save you.
Fingers jab deep into your side - it's gonna leave a good sized bruise. His other hand covers your mouth to silence you. "Aw, come on, little dove. You'll go willingly when I'm done with you. I can tell you that. And don't scream, you'll wear out your pretty voice."
You bite down hard on his hand, the metallic taste of blood lingering on your tastebuds. Then, you whip around and strike the man across the face, the sound of flesh on flesh echoing throughout the night.
"You really shouldn't have done that, little dove. I'm kind of pissed off now. If I'm pissed, then it'll be less fun. And I don't it to be less fun."
He lunges at you and starts to take swings at you. His hits don't miss you once. One in the gut, one in the chest, another to the lip. You kick and fight and scream, but you slowly find yourself loosing energy. He can easily overpower you. It's only a matter of time.
You look up at him and stare at his angry face. His fist is about to come down. You brace yourself for the pain.
It doesn't come.
A slender figure stands behind your attacker, holding his fist back as if he were holding a feather. "That's not too kind, is it now? So how about this? You apologize to the lady and then turn your sick arse into the police?"
He laughs. "Me? The Titan? Apologize? And if I don't want to? Are you going to make me?"
You savior sends a nasty kick straight to his head. "Yes."
But darkness swoops over you before anything else.
You tie your hair up with a simple hair band and straighten your dobok shirt.
Since your encounter with The Titan last month, you had enrolled in a local martial arts centre so you could learn how to defend yourself against any other surprise attack like that one. You never found out what happened to the person that saved you. The police arrived because an older lady living in a house nearby called after hearing the commotion. There was no one around but you. No Titan. No savior.
Sighing, you step into the dojang, bowing at the edge of the mat as you were told. You had signed up for some private lessons to start and would gradually ease your way into the adult classes with more people, more chances to spar, and more chances to get hurt.
Signing, you see a lady with brown hair tied in a messy braid, then clipped back waving at you energetically. Her glasses bounce up and down, but she settles down when you stand in front of her.
“Hi! You must be (Y/n). Master Erwin told me you’d be coming in today. I’m Hanji Zoë, but you can just call me Hanji – I don’t mind.” She glances at your uniform. “Oh, don’t worry about wearing full uniform. That’s mainly for winter and the tests. You can wear the cotton shirts we have up front. Much more comfortable. Anyways, we’re gonna start with some basics. Sound good?
You begin with jumping jacks – twenty. Then you stretch some. Hanji emphasizes the importance of stretching. Splitz. Left foot. Right foot. Butterfly. Left arm. Right arm. Pushups. Squats.
You’re nearly out of breath when Hanji pats you on the back. “Alright, now kicking time. Rising kick should help you begin your skills. It’s easy really. Swing your leg up, without moving your other foot from the ground. Make sure your hands are positioned like so and your thumb should never ever ever be inside your fist cause when you punch – the bone with break. Got it?”
“Y-Yeah… I think.”
She claps her hands together. “Great. Go ahead and try a couple. Keep your leg straight, but don’t swing your body into this kick.”
The people around you punching bags and kicking paddles stop, turn, and face the entrance. Hanji’s voice rings throughout the room. “Cha ryuht! Face Master Ackerman! Kyung nae!”
In perfect order, everyone bows at the same moment. You are left straggler for a few moments, but you bow at the waist as well.
Hanji stands up straight and greets the man as warmly as she did you. “Hiya Levi! What brings you here today?”
“Erwin put me in charge of the first class today. Mike couldn’t make it.” He turns and looks at you, unimpressed with the fresh meat.
You give him a short and quick bow. “Hello sir.”
Ignoring you, Levi glances at Hanji. “Who’s this one?”
“This is (Y/n). She’s just started with us, but I’m sure she’ll do great!”
His grey eyes rake over you again. “If you say so.” And he takes his leave.
“Don’t worry about him. He’s hard on the outside, but he’s a really good guy.”
Shaking your head, you turn to your instructor. “What’s next?”
Over the course of two weeks, you trained your hardest.
You joined the adult class and made some fast friends: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Jack. The first three were all pretty new to martial arts - they all started a couple days before you. Jack, on the other hand, was already a light green belt but acted like a high level black belt. The five of you were always partners for sparing and for other drills. Sometimes, the instructor would partner you with other people your rank, but usually you could stay with your friends.
Today, you strap on your leg guards, tighten the Velcro holding the foam at your arms, tie the chest gear, shove the mouth piece in, place the helmet on your head, and pull on the punching gloves. You are the ultimate moving red target.
The instructor for the day partners you with the girl that always snacks on vending machine food, Sasha. She's a kind girl with brown hair that always wears a smile - and a light green belt, two levels above you since you are an orange belt. Everyone else is partnered and ready to start.
"Kyorugi - seijak!"
Sasha starts bouncing on her toes and puts her fists up. "Don't worry, (Y/n). I'll go easy on you since its your first time sparring with someone at a higher level than you. It's a little scary the first time, I know."
As you nod, she throws a lazy kick at your chest, which you easily block with your forearm. The match progressed and you manage to throw a few kicks and punches at Sasha as well as block her own attacks.
After your match with Sasha, you are out with Armin, then another green belt named Jean. You were feeling pretty confident about your sparring skills, especially for an orange belt. Smiling to yourself, you partnered with Mikasa for the last match of the day.
"Can you go a little harder on me? I think I can do it."
She nods and then bows. You bow in return and take your stance.
"Well that's going to leave a good bruise. Thanks Mikasa."
She shrugs and throws her shin guards into her bag. "You said to go harder."
You pull the uniform shirt off and grab your black cotton top. "Doesn't mean you can put all your power into one kick."
"That wasn't all my power."
You pause, shirt in hand, and look at her. "Show off," you mutter.
"No, I just practice at home. Do you have a bag at your place?"
"Should I...?" You put your shirt on and then change into some shorts. "Well, if anything, Miss Hanji closes up late today. Maybe I could stay and practice?"
Eren pokes his head around the corner of the door. "You guys better come quick - Master Ackerman and Master Smith are going to spar! This is gonna really cool."
Indeed it is cool. Most of the Survey Corps Tae Kwon Do students sit in a large circle around Master Erwin and Master Ackerman. Armin and Jack both wave at you, Mikasa, and Eren, some empty sports next to him. The three of you take your seats and watch the two professionals speak. Neither of them wore protective gear. They inky had their white uniforms with black details, a sewn patch of the Survey Corps logo, and their black belts. Master Erwin was rank nine while Master Ackerman was only degree seven. They were equally intimidating though.
"Now Erwin, just because you own this place doesn't mean I'm going to take it easy on you."
"Now Levi, just because you do these type of matches for sport and you beat up all of your opponents doesn't mean that I'm not going to kick your ass." He adds a smile at the end of his statement, earning scattered laughs from the crowd of people watching.
The two men bow and start bouncing on their toes.
You turn to Eren. "Sport? What does he mean?"
"Oh yeah - Master Ackerman does kickboxing and registers on tournaments. He's really good. Hasn't lost a match in like three years. He’s really good. But Master Smith has be doing martial arts longer than Ackerman. This’ll be really interesting to see!”
Master Ackerman attacks first, throwing a perfect turning kick to Erwin’s head. The blonde easily ducks and punches his opponent’s open chest. They aren’t actually fighting though. Their feet and fists don’t have any force in them, but their muscles are tense.
Things start to pick up the pace when Levi side kicks Erwin in the centre of his chest, earning the smallest ‘oof’ from him. Everything else happens fast; Erwin pulls his knee up, blocking a diagonal kick from Levi. Then, he turns and back kicks Levi and punches his left pec.
Levi shuffles back, but he then takes a quick running start, jumps, turns, and backs kicks Erwin. In the one moment that the master is suspended in the air, his grey eyes lock with yours. He seems amused.
Upon impact, Erwin makes a wide C with his hand, swings his arm across Levi’s leg. The ravenette lands, but looses his balance, giving Erwin the chance to sweep under his feet. Master Ackerman lands flat on his back.
“Dammit,” Levi mumbles.
Erwin addresses the entire crowd. “No matter whom your opponent is in a real-life situation, you do not hesitate. Understand?”
“Yes sir!” the crowd replies in unison.
You glance at Master Ackerman, and once again his eyes lock with yours. Erwin helps his opponent up and the students and other instructors scatter.
“I actually can’t stay late tonight – I have some things I’ve got to catch up on. I think Levi’s gonna be closing up tonight. If you don’t bother him, I’m sure he’ll let you stay. If you want, I can talk to him.”
“Would you? Oh that would be great. Thank you!”
“Sure. No worries.”
You pull the tall, red punching bag out from among the others and take your stance. I’ll just start with some simple diagonal kicks.
You had practiced your diagonal kick, sidekick, turning kick, and back kick. Now you were starting to get tired and the raw pink on your feet wasn’t very happy.
“Are you done?” someone asks.
You turn and see Master Ackerman standing next to you. “Oh!” You bow. “Sorry sir. I didn’t see you. Or hear you.”
“So I noticed.”
“Interesting match you had earlier. With Master Erwin. I don’t think I’ve seen someone else here try a kick like that one.”
His eyes don’t meet yours now. “Yeah. I fucked up at the end though. Had something like that happened in a real match, it would cost me everything.” He clears his throat. “I’ve got to close up now. It’s rather late. You done?”
“Oh, oh, yeah. I guess.”
“Yes or no?”
“I wanted to work a little on my punching, but that can wait til tomorrow.”
“Show me.”
His words surprise you; the first time the two of you met, he could care less about how well you were going to do. “Alright..”
You step into position, feet in L stance, chest towards the side, face forward, hands up. You bounce a few times, pivot your foot and punch the bag. It’s not a bad punch, but you don’t like the way you execute it.
“Turn your chest more towards the bag when you punch. Pivot your foot less – otherwise you’ll loose your balance. Don’t stretch your arm that much because you leave yourself at risk of the other person breaking your elbow. Don’t tense your muscles. This is martial arts, not body building.”
“You got all that from one punch?”
He nods.
You try once more, doing all of the things he told you to. It felt better. More proper. You punch the bag again. And again. You feel good. Smiling, you attempt to put all your power into the next one. But this time, you pivot your foot too much, slip, and fall.
Awaiting the hard feeling of the mat covering the concrete floor, you close your eyes tightly.
“Don’t get cocky though.”
You open your eyes and look at him. He caught you.
“Sorry. Thank you Master Ackerman.”
You stand as he replies. “Just Levi. I don’t care much for the formality shit. ‘Master Ackerman’ makes me sound like an old geezer from Karate Kid. I’m not that old yet.”
Chuckling you start to push the bag back into place. “Thank you for the help. I’ll make sure to practice the points you told me.”
“Sure. Goodnight, (Y/n).”
“Goodnight Master Ack- Levi.”
You speed walk to the entrance to the training hall, bow, grab your things that sit next to the viewing room, and leave. I swore I could have seen him smile.
Hanji places the precious brown belt in your hands. “Congratulations (Y/n)! I don’t think I’ve seen someone get a brown belt as fast as you have. It’s like yesterday you started when really it’s been… what… nearly four months?”
“I’ve been training really hard and everyone around here has been helping me a lot!”
You shuffle along and let the next person behind you receive their belt. You see Levi standing in the corner, eyes raking over the crowd people. You’re now standing in front of him. You give him a quick bow. “Would you mind tying it for me? You’ve help me a lot and I don’t think I would have been able to learn that last pattern properly without your help.”
Levi smiles warmly, a rare sight, and takes your belt. Putting your arms up, he pulls the thick fabric around your waist and begins the art of tying the perfect knot. “You deserve it. Between you and me, the other people that tested today did a pretty shitty job. Lazy punches, soft kicks.” He gives the ends of the belt a quick tug and looks up at you. “Well done, (Y/n).”
Suddenly, you have a strong urge to hug him. After all, Master Ackerman did help you achieve your goal of becoming more athletically fit as well as capable of taking care of yourself. Before you can think anymore, he speaks. “I have a match tonight, but would you care to get some coffee tomorrow?”
Shit, where did my voice go? “Sure. I’d love to.”
You pull your down jacket closer over your uniform and new brown belt as you walk home. Since your car decided not to work, you had to take it to the shop yesterday and wouldn’t be getting it back until tomorrow.
As you rounded the corner, memories of that night a few months ago fill your mind. No. I’m stronger now. And no one will dare attack me now. The Titan? Pfftt. He hasn’t been seen around since then.
Just as you had managed to calm your nerves, the hairs on the back on your neck stand up and start to scream as goosebumps dot your skin and run down your spine. A breeze that is too warm for the winter evening blows under your baggy uniform pants. The voice is bitter and deep.
“You quite embarrassed me last time with that saviour of yours. Luckily, he’s going to be here this time. I checked.”
Your hand slips into your jacket pocket and you dial 911 without looking at the screen. (You had memorized your phone inside and out.) I will put up a better fight this time. Don’t hesitate. Don’t get cocky.
Hands grab hold of you roughly. You step hard on the person’s foot, and side kick him as hard as you can in the gut.
He’s not fazed. Not even surprised. He’s annoyed.
“Oh, going to fight more this time? So be it.” The attacker pulls a blade from his pocket.
He takes a handful of your hair and pulls hard causing you to wince. You kick and scream and move. It’s mostly for naught. He covers your mouth after slapping you harshly. The metal drags across the skin of your collarbone, drawing blood.
You dig your fingers into his scalp, dragging your nails across the skin. He cries out in pain, giving you the chance to sock him in the jaw. There’s a loud crunching sound that makes your stomach flip. You wipe your mouth, noticing your lower lip is swollen. Someone’s blood is painted in streaks across your knuckles, but you’re not sure if it’s his or yours.
In his moment of weakness, you get up and run. This time, the man grabs tight hold of your leg and pulls you to the ground. You land hard on your elbows and his hands are still on your ankle. “Oh dove, you can’t run away. Let’s fix that.” You look hard at your attacker and notice a tattoo on his left hip.
Your scream is drowned by the shrills of police sirens close by. He laughs and smiles, fingers pushing away your coat and shirt. You lay flat on your back shuttering from the cold of the night and from the pain in your ankle.
His breath raises goose bumps across your stomach as he lowers his lips to your stomach. Hw kisses you twice, elbows you hard, and whispers into your ear, “Next time I’ll just kill you. You’re becoming too much of a hassle.” And he thrusts the knife into your side.
And he’s off into the night just as the police cars arrive. An ambulance comes moments later and a paramedic kneels by your side.
“We have a young female, mid twenties, stabbed – the weapon is still in – and slashed, fractured ankle and multiple flesh wounds. The knife hasn’t gone through anything major though. We need an IV ready.”
“Ma’am, can you tell me your name?”
The only thing your respond with is a muted moan.
He flashes a light into your eyes, but you just look straight. “Pupils aren’t responding. She might be going into shock.”
You try to talk – to tell them about The Titan’s return, but you can’t.
“Ma’am stay awake. Come on, keep looking here.” He turns his head and shouts something to the other paramedic that pulls a stretcher to put you on.
Nodding slightly, they pick you up and place you onto the sheets. A collar is tightened around your neck to keep your head from moving. They clip a pulseox onto your finger and velcro a device to your arm. Your can hear a crowd chattering loudly around the police cars and ambulance. A figure runs up past the crowd, only to be stopped by police.
“No! I need to see her. Let me see her.”
The medics take off your shirt and cover your open wounds. With the little energy you have left, you point towards the person. “L-Le-vi. Levi-I,” you manage mumble.
They look to where you point. One of them goes to the police officer and speaks quickly. Levi manages to pass and come next to you.
The paramedics driving the ambulance gets out to help push your stretcher into the back of the car. When Levi tries to join you, the medic snaps at him. “Oi! And who are you? Only immediate family or,-“
“Boyfriend counts, so step aside.” He grits his teeth as he speaks.
You’ve learned, by now, to be surprised by nearly everything he says. You moan again. “P-Pleaase lett him come.”
“Fine. Get in.”
Once in the ambulance, Levi takes your hand and holds it gently to his lips. “I’m sorry, (Y/n). I’m sorry.”
You close your eyes and fall into a deep sleep.
When you wake, you see Levi sitting slouched in a chair next to you.
You try to sit up, but it hurts terribly, thus making you call out in pain. Levi wakes up suddenly and glances at you. “You’re awake. Thank God.”
“What happened?”
“The Titan decided to attack you again. You scared me shitless… you’ve been out for about a week now.” He chuckles. “If you really didn’t want to go to coffee with me, you could have just said so and not do this entire scandal.”
“Hold on…” Is this him telling me that he likes me?
Someone knocks at the door. You notice the tall, blonde man as one of the instructors that helped you when Levi was busy.
“You alive? You worried all of us back at Survey Corps.”
“Hi Jack (A/N: shsh idk names).” He hands you a bouquet of flowers.
“Glad to see you’re pulling through. Did you beat up your attacker with a nasty turning kick like last time?”
He would only know that if…
“Hold on… it was you… that saved me that night. Weren’t you?”
Jack smiles at you. “Yeah…about that…”
“If you go near her again, I will kill you, do you understand?”
Jack gives Levi a cocky grin. “Aw, but all I have to do now is input the thought that you are The Titan. Sneaky, aren’t I? Now, if you want to say goodbye on good terms, don’t think about talking to her. Do you understand?”
Jack walks away casually, smiling happily to himself, leaving Levi to press his back against the wall and think.
What will I do now?
For two months, Levi hadn’t spoken to you. Six point five weeks since he hinted that he might have liked you. Forty-seven days since you realized you had romantic feelings for the instructor. One thousand, one hundred and twenty-eight hours since you’ve talked with him.
The hospital discarded you two weeks ago, making sure that you took your medicine and stayed in the house at all times unless accompanied by a close friend. The cut on your collarbone healed nicely while the stab wound had to be stitched up and your fractured ankle required a brace. You might as well have been rolled in bubble wrap for extra safety.
You spoke with your friends from outside tae kwon do as well as Mikasa, Eren, Armin, Hanji, and even Erwin. They all wished you well and a speedy recovery.
Hanji sits on the edge of your stretcher. “What did his face look like again?” she asks you for the millionth time.
Sighing, you remind her you don’t remember. “I didn’t see his face. He always kept it well hidden.”
“What about Jack? Your saviour,” she teases.
Blushing, you kick her lightly with your uninjured foot. “It’s not going anywhere. He hasn’t even stated it fully. Why he saved me. For all I know – he didn’t save me and is just trying to get into my pants.
“He’s hot though.”
“Hanji!”
“What?!” The two of you laugh for a minute. “Anyways, Levi’s having a match soon. Against him. It’s bound to be interesting.”
This sparks your interest. “When?”
“This weekend. You know in Karate Kid at the end when they have the whole fancy tournament thing? It’s kind of like that but for adults. And the prize is money and fame. Levi has kept the winning streak for a few years now, but Jack’s joined the game.” She lowers her voice. “I think Ackerman’s going to have a run for his money though. Like I've seen the kid. He must have some Kung Fu or Karate in his background.”
“Can I come?” you ask with pleading eyes.
“I guess…”
“Really? Oh goodness thank you thank you thank you!”
“But I don’t care what you say, I am personally seeing you home.”
“Deal.”
The day of the big tournament arrives and you pull on some black jeans and a fern green lacy top. With your hair done, makeup applied, and accessories placed, you’re ready to go. Hanji honks from outside just in time.
You sit shotgun and greet your friends. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin all were invited to come and watch also. “Hey guys!”
“(Y/n)! You’re looking great. It’s like you were never in rehab.”
“No!” you laugh. “That’s not a complement, Eren.”
Mikasa slaps him upside the head. “Idiot.”
When you all arrive at the tournament place, Hanji checks everyone in and gives each of you a backstage pass. “Courtesy of Master Erwin,” she says, smiling.
“Oh cool! Now we can go see Master Ackerman!” Armin exclaims.
“Yeah – and Jack. He’s fighting today also,” Eren adds. “I bet you they’ll be fighting at semi-finals.”
“We’ll see, Eren,” you reply.
Backstage consists of many half-naked men, getting ready for their matches. They all have boxing shorts hanging on their hips and towels wrapped around their necks. They have yet to change into their uniforms and gear. You notice Levi sitting in a chair next to Erwin. On the other side of the blonde is Jack.
“Hey there Master Miyagi!” Hanji chirps, slapping Levi’s bare back. “Getting ready?”
He stares blankly at the brunette before his gaze falls on you. For a moment, his eyes rake up and down your body, and then they fall onto his bag at his feet. “Sure. Something like that.”
You sit square in the middle of the bleachers, Levi’s back facing you.
The day had passed quickly and the two people left standing; Levi and Jack. Indeed this will be interesting.
(A/n) ; I’m way to lazy to write the entire match.
The score is five all. It is the third and final round.
People cheer equally for Jack and for Levi. Deep down, you want Levi to win. It would give you a better excuse to talk with him. Hi Levi! Congrats on the win. I knew you could do it. Quick question though… why have you been avoiding me?
Jack circles around Levi like a vulture does around it’s next dying meal. They seem to be talking.
And then, Jack lunges at Levi like a leopard and starts kicking and punching. The raven haired man manages to block most of the hits, but one hook kick to the head puts Jack three points in the lead. Levi has the smallest trickle of blood coming from his nose, but he doesn’t care.
They return to the centre of the mat and bounce steadily.
Levi’s mad. You can tell. Jack is just playing around.
The timer on the clock shows thirty seconds. If Levi doesn’t do something now, he’ll loose.
Levi shuffles back, but he then takes a quick running start, jumps, turns, and backs kicks Jack. But this kick is different. He side kicks Jack first and uses his momentum to launch off his opponent and send a reverse hook kick to the head. In the one moment that Levi is suspended in the air, his grey eyes lock with yours. He seems amused. He smiles.
Upon impact, Jack makes a wide C with his hand, swings his arm across Levi’s leg. The ravenette lands, but looses his balance, giving Jack the chance to sweep under his feet. But Levi’s ready. He jumps and punches Jack’s open chest. Levi lands like a cat in the centre of the mat while Jack straggles back.
Levi won many points, there’s no way Jack has the time to get close to that score. Instead, he takes a running starts at Levi and goes rabid. Punching and kicking – he’s like a feral beast.
You stand. Jack can’t do that. It’s against the rules. He could seriously hurt Levi.
Levi is flat on his back and then suddenly sends a solid kick to Jack’s jaw. The male lands on his back, seemingly unconscious. His shirt is raised the slightest bit, revealing a familiar tattoo.
“Disqualified!” They point at Jack. The ref holds Levi’s hand high in the air. “Red wins!”
You cheer along with the rest of the crowd. Hanji pumps her fist into the air. “YEAH YOU SHOWED HIM LEVI. I NEVER LIKED JACK ANYWAYS.”
Before the host of the tournament can congratulate Levi, the short master takes his helmet off and pulls his gloves and chest gear off. Discarding them at your feet, he takes you into his arms and hugs you tightly.
“Ew, you’re all sweaty!” you joke hugging him back.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry.”
You place a hand on each side of his face and bring his lips to yours.
You swing your hand back and forth playfully, Levi’s fingers entwined with yours. Strolling down the empty street with him next to you makes you feel safe. It’s perfect.
“And that kick at the end! That was some Karate Kid shit!”
Levi chuckles. “I aim to impress.”
It has been two years since the Titan incidents. Jack was found to be The Titan when Levi uncovered him during their match. Jack was arrested quickly and put into prison. That would be his home for a very long time.
Levi was your saviour the first time. He watched over you as you trained at the Survey Corps Tae Kwon Do.
You trained hard with Levi and are now a third-degree black belt while Levi is due for his final test in a few months.
He pauses for a moment. You turn and he’s on one knee.

Is this supposed to be American style? I learned the belt list was white, green, blue, red, then various degrees of black. I never heard of "light green" or "brown".

Well, that's only the levels that
the martial arts school I attended
offered. I'm not sure if they are
traditional Korean rankings
but hey i have my certificate
saying I'm a kick-ass black belt
so that's what I really wanted

Guess that just means that American gains belts at a faster rate than traditional to accommodate the increased number of belts.

Well it took me about a year to become a first degree black belt - each ranking we had required you to earn "stripes" which were tape ring a I different colours. One for the corresponding pattern for your ranking. One for definitions/other. And a final one that sealed the deal and allowed you to flattened the next test.

I think it takes about a year to reach red and then maybe another year before reaching first degree of black for traditional but it's been almost 10 years since our last class since our Sensei got sick and had to stop teaching. He'd still around he just can't really formally teach us anymore

Wow. This was so intense.
And I am not lying. I wanted to cry, laugh, shout and everything at the same time!
I am not a big fan of martial arts but, I would be lying if I told you that I've never wanted to have some practice. I was always interested but... I am way to lazy... after reading this, I regret not doing it.
What Reader-chan had to gone through with that Titan... I felt awful. Like being kicked in the guts.
I found the story interesting and amazing! Really amazing!
You could describe every single action, feeling and reaction bith of them (Levi and Reader-chan) had through the story!
I loved this so so much!
I've told you this before but... your stories are absolutely wonderful! You should be proud of yourself

I'm afraid this is
simply a one-shot
and will not be
carrying on with this
particular plot, but
I will be releasing
a kick-ass spy series
with Levi that will
feature various
martial art references

Love this!
I've been doing taekwondo for about two and a half years now.
I do a different style, though: belt wise we go white, yellow 1 2 3, blue 1 2 3, red 1 2 3, chodambo (red with a black stripe) and then black belt.
I'm going for my red 2 pretty soon.
It was great reading this and being able to understand all the terminology and references. Awesome!
