By no means are you a graceful baker. In fact, you don’t know why you are in the kitchen trying to figure out how to make macarons in half an hour. That’s all the time you had before Seth returned from training with Ray, and you knew that he would be really tired after it all, so you wanted to do something nice for him – not only to see his smile, but to also show your thanks for him looking after you while you spent your time at the castle.

The recipe was a bit confusing too, especially since you had negative cooking skills. How are you supposed to fold batter? It’s liquid, not a piece of fabric!

After inhaling and exhaling sharply, you start arranging the ingredients and add them one by one to the bowel. You’ve never even heard of almond flour before this, and you certainly didn’t have room temperature eggs. They were as cold as your hands after you stuck them in a freezer, but you didn’t have the time for them to warm up. And why was it called cream of tartar when it was literally… powder?

Although you didn’t understand half of the instructions, you manage to make an okay-looking batter. Not that you… really knew what a good batter was supposed to look like. You slowly put a small spoon of the blue colored batter onto a tray before putting it into the oven. Now to work on the simple icing that was supposed to sandwich the biscuits together.

When it doesn’t come out right, you end up just adding more sugar than needed to conceal the strange taste.

After you assemble the cookies, you dust a bit of sugar on top to also hide the fact that they’re slightly burnt and don’t look blue, but an ugly blue-brown hybrid.

It takes you a few minutes to search the castle before you find Seth walking with Luka. They’ve probably been training or working together, and you don’t want to interrupt them, so you try to abort your mission.

“(Y/n)!” Seth calls out happily.

You pause and turn around, hiding the tray behind your back. “Hi Seth…”

Luka excuses himself and turns right to leave the two of you.

“How are you?” he asks, kindness sparkling in his deep eyes.

Instead of replying, you bow your head to hide your blush and hold out the plate of slightly burnt macarons. The heat from your face spreads to your arms and legs, leaving you a trembling mess, scared to look at Seth and his reaction.

When you hear nothing, you look up slightly, only to find Seth as red as you are. If it were possible, steam would likely be coming out of his ears from how surprised he was.

“S-Seth?”

“Are these for me?” he asks with a soft voice.

“Yes!” you reply almost too quickly. “They might taste really bad though because I can’t cook- but I hope you like them!” You shut your eyes tightly, still scared to see his response.

The tray is removed from your hands, a gentle clink sounds as it knocks against the table, and Seth embraces you tightly. You’re taken by surprise and don’t know what to say – Seth can’t stop thanking you and telling you how much he loves them.

You’re completely frozen in place, but his warmth melts you, and you embrace him back and brush off his thanks and compliments. “I-It’s nothing, really!”

“But you didn’t have to go out of your way to do that for me,” he told you, taking a step back. Inside, really, he was ecstatic – Alice had made desserts especially for him and only for him. His heart thundered inside of his chest, and was worried that you would hear it. Seth also wished that he could control the blush flaring across his cheeks.

You gave him a bright smile, and he returned it quickly before taking a macaron and placing it into the middle of his tongue. He chews slowly and smiles again.

“It’s burnt, isn’t it?” you ask with a dejected frown. “I knew that I should have taken them out sooner, but I lost the timer and it went off like an alarm.”

Seth shakes his head back and forth. “No! I enjoy them immensely. Thank you, (Y/n). How did you know I loved macaroons?”

“They’re macarons,” you reply almost instinctively.

Seth is a bit surprised.

“Sorry, I just… after reading the recipe so many times, I just have it memorized…”

He smiles and leans forward slightly, taking your hand and kissing your fingers. His lips graze over your skin, sending electric sparks up your arm, through your chest where it pauses your heart for a moment, and then it moves to your throat and claims your voice.

“They’re wonderful, thank you again.”
