Description
This is my Shepard, Margurite. Earthborn, War Hero, Sentinel, and a Siha in mourning for her Einherjar. [link]For those who don't know, Margurite is a Dane, and a practicing Asatru. When Thane called her Siha, and first told her what it meant, she (ie, I) immediately drew a parallel to the Valkyries of our heritage.
The Einherjar are the warriors the Valkyries collect from the battlefield. The dead who have been granted the honour to fight along side the Gods on the field of Vígríðr on the day when the Wolf breaks his chains, and Heimdall sounds the horn, calling all to the final battle of Ragnarok.
Thane was a man who was dead in all but body when Margurite met him. She carried him to her ship for a battle that could well have been the end of them, that was in fact a precursor to the war that would end the existence of every sentient lifeform in the galaxy.
The title Einherjar is more than appropriate for Thane. I think you can all agree with me on that.
Mass Effect belongs to Bioware. Margurite is mine.

My Zhenia Pastushkova ("Shepard" is the anglicization of Pastushkova, for easier explanations in English-influenced regions) is a a Russo-Canadian noblewoman under the restored Tsarist monarchy. She is a practicing Russian Orthodox person, named after Zhenia of St. Petersburg. Likewise, she calls Rupert Gardner "chto ogorodnik," "that gardener/groundskeeper guy," and plays games with Wrex by using a half-right Russian joke diminutive, "Vresha."
She loves Liara unto death and past it -- I mean agapic love. Every cell ... yes ... how she adores "mythological archetype of the serene bird, of the clan of the miners, the offspring of the brightness" ... She says this is what "Liara T'Soni aile'Benez" means. But she certainly knows what you are talking about.
She thinks of Margurite perhaps as Sigrdrífa.

:::looks askance:::
Sigrdrífa Victory-Bringer, called by some Brynhildr.
From the Sigrdrífumál, part of the Edda. Or you could just have asked your Shepard what I meant. After all, in my head, it is as though my Shepard has "told" me all sorts of stuff about herself and her comrades that I did not know. She is a poetess. She speaks six languages, including Karshamai Batarian and Tyann'asyárrihhya -- which as I am sure your Shepard has told you, is Liara's dialect.
For Zhenia's poems that I took down by dictation -- you would say that I wrote them -- please see

Yeah, there are a lot of us. Almost everyone I know has a full history for their Shepards, and some of them are just... wow!
As for me, I didn't give it to her so much. When I first started playing I just wanted to fix the mistakes I made with my first ME2 pt (PS3 girl), and go for Thane, cause I almost made my Garrusmancer fall for Thane, even though she is so TOTALLY unsuited for the man. So I created Margurite, but about half-way through, around the 27 hour mark, she started revealing herself to me, and started growing and developing into a real person. So I've gone and bought myself a decent PC, and bought ME on PC, ME2, and now ME3, so I can give her a full playthrough and learn as much of her character as I can before I continue writing Invictus.
I bought ME3 basically for the multiplayer, but also in probably futile hope that they will fix Thane and give my Margurite a decent ending. Decent in this case being the Refuse ending, where she and Thane fight and struggle for the rest of their short lives, before finally dying and being reaperized, and the entire galaxy being doomed.
Seriously though she would never choose destroy. She doesn't trust the god-child. His very presence just screams "IT'S A TRAP!!!"

Oh. My. Gods! I thought I was the only one who thought of the Norse religion when Thane talked about the warrior angels of Arashu, as did my Shepard, being from Sweden and knowing about her country's history, even though she's not a practicing Asatru.

So did I, but apparently not! I found out that a lot of us Thanemancers on the BSN think the same!
But then Thane is just that awesome, he can reference religions he knows nothing about, and do it correctly. :nods:
Bleh, sleep brain. :S

Le gasp! There's more of us? Oh, I do love when great minds think alike. X'3
But as you said, Thane is just that awesome. Referencing one of my favorite religions.

Well, Margurite is more Thane's really, but then that would imply some sort of indirect part ownership on Bioware's part, and I am not letting that happen!

I like Valkyrie Cinderella best. We need more women rescuing men pics! And the looks on their faces. Just, perfect.
I also can't believe that it took me this long to notice the Einherjar parrallel. And now that I have, I still can't help but think of them both as Brunhilde and Sigurd, now. Well, sort of Sigurd. Thane doesn't really mesh with Sigurd in my mind, though he also kinda does, in a mild, off-hand way.

I can't say I'm knowledgable about Sigard and Brunhilde. I know a bit about the norse gods and beliefs of the afterlife even before movies like Thor and whatnot came out, but I love the norse stories and mythology in general. Perhaps I will brush up on the story of Siguard and Brunhilde soon .

Yeah, I've been brushing up on my Norse mythology for a while now too. Still want to get my hands on a decent copy of the Prose Edda and the Lokasenna, but I just don't remember which translation was the best one, and i don't want to buy a shoddily translated copy, you know?

You know there might be some folks here on da that might know which translation to go with. Outside of that I bet a little online research might illumate the pros and cons of different translations.
Do you have a decent library near you? There is probably something to start with if you do. Personally I love perusing the mythology section in my downtown library. Especially the children's mythology. I know it's not as accurate but I love the illustrations and imagination of those simple mythological stories.
