The damn scanner cut off the edges of the paper, including the two black borders and the extra white line completing the square.Anyone who has read the Sandman series knows what that the personification of death is a teenage girl. This is when she appears before Rorschach after his death in Karnak. Death always says "take my hand" and than takes them to wherever the deceased are supposed to go.
It was just a random idea.

I know but I think he would see himself more as "Rorschach" than Walter, even in death, before going off with death.

I think he took of the mask so that Walter Kovacs would die and not Rorschach. So Rorschach could live on.
