“This unicorn mare was a singer in life, though she was an unsuccessful one. After being resurrected, her voice turned from soothing, to nothing more than a torturous screech. Hence, her former name was forgotten, and she was renamed ‘Banshee.’”
Of course, this is less of a “this is the spirit of a pony, in the world of the dead” story, and more of a “resurrected through necromancy” character. I’m thinking up a mini-story for her, but it might end up waiting until next Halloween
