Well, I find the way you do background lighting to be especially excellent. Way WAY better than the way I do

Layers with different opacities, softly brushing colors, and of course the smudge tool. That's all there really is to it.

I knew you're gonna say all of those tools mentioned. Wait, I frogot that you're running on GIMP or OC, right? (I'm more of a Photoshop person; I pretty much figure it out most of the tools used myself, it's just that I prefer painting and coloring characters than backgrounds. LOL!)
