But I am thinking: why now? Why come forward after so many years. What is the occasion, the reason?
In the fifties Harold Robbins wrote books, describing exactly this. It has been going on for decades.
Power corrupts. Both ways. On all levels.

I sit back until things have filtered out; guilty, not guilty, rape or misconduct.
Judgement is happening too quick. Are we back at the times they burned witches upon hearsay?

I agree that it's not settled yet, but I think the presumption of innocence is a little strained at this point.

And why now, after all this time? Well, if you're immersed in it, as a victim, it's hard to come forward and expose yourself to a different kind of abuse. And the more pervasive and accepted it is, the harder it is to break out. But once the floodgates have opened...

But you're right, we don't burn witches on hearsay. That's why I'm suggesting we just hang them up in the manacles for now, and let them ponder the hot irons while justice takes its course.
