Description another photo from a ghost town~ Bodie, CA

Unable to enter the buildings, my photos were taken through windows, or knocked out knot holes in the walls. I scanned the black and white negatives with a transparency/negative adaptor, and switched it to true color...the result being more aged looking. Depending on the film, I got very orange tones or more true grey tones. Hope you enjoy.

This photo was taken through a crack between two boards in the door to this bar. I loved it so much.
I did a bit of cropping, but I didn't want to take anymore of the image away in order to get rid of the blurry part (on the left side) Oh well. Let me konw what you think.

thank you so much.
it is actually a state park now, protected by park rangers year round from vandals and such. but i know that there are many "ghost towns" around. I hope someday you will be able to explore some too.

And I don't blame you for that.
I am embarassed and disgusted by this president...I voted for the other guy. Bush is not MY president.
I hope when you do come visit you will send a note and let me know what you think.

Yes I would like to explore the world of fashion photography a little, and this would be the perfect place for it...though it is a state park... can't really go into the buildings..but some of the exteriors are cool too.

Thank you for your comment.

Fantastic shot! It takes you back in time. You can easily imagine people bellying up to the bar. It even looks like some of the bottles still have liquor in them. Hmmm.... wonder if then have a 100 year old whiskey...

thanks a bunch...glad you like it....I don't know if there is any liquor left...I know that the place was only turned into a state park sometime in the last 20-30 years....so...anybody could have had free reign there. hehe...

This is the only ghost town I've been too...it really is interesting....It would be incredible to stumble across one that hasn't been found and overrun....I would love to look around the rooms of some of the buildings, but they are protected. Some people have to ruin it for the rest of us....Oh well....thanks for the nice comment...I'm glad you like it.

I was just up there and not a single shot through the windows or cracks came out for me so I must applaud you! The shot is genrally good but my favorite thing about it is actually the thing that would be considered a flaw... the light burn on the left... makes it feel more "old timey"....

Did you just post this as abigger version of your older image? i remember this but thought it was smaller.

Anyway thanks for having shot Bodie... I'd not have found it otherwise and I had such a wonderful morning up there...

Awesome!!! I'm so glad you were able to go and that you had a nice time. I like the old feel of it too, with the blurry left side. As for the resubmit...I changed the format for the mug, because I ordered some and I was disappointed in the format I had created before I think the new layout will be so much better. Thanks again...and I would be very interested in seeing your Bodie photos.

You know...I did see these, and I thought that the pump reminded me of Bodie but in my sleepy after work internet time I thought it was taken at your Grandparents...HA! And I thought the church was Bodie too, but wasn't sure... Now I know..I apologize for not paying closer attention. I am so happy that you got a chance to go though. I have been at sunset before and it is very lovely, but the snow is extra cool. I will try and submit stuff...but by the time I get home I am too tired to do much online other than look and comment on a couple then hit the sack. Bah...Now I need to resubmit a bundle for my prints account so I can make a calendar for a few Christmas gifts. I think I will use a lot of Bodie, and some other mountain shots and perhaps a couple of city shots too. We'll see.

No need to apologize... I only cried for 3 hours... if it'da been 4 then you could apoligize. Anyway there will be more coming as time allows. I won't be posting all the good shots here though somre were taken more for demonstrative purposes than artistic so they'll need to go on another project I'm working on. I'll let you know when that goes up. That tired when you get home from work? What do you, pray tell?

I am a school aide and home tutor for children with Autism. Very stressful and draining. Some of my kids are very smart and the lessons are high speed and incidental, and some of my kids are out of control with aggression. I get bit, slapped, scratched, punched, and get my hair pulled and my glassed torn off my face. YAY! I even have a fresh scratch on my face under my eye from Monday. :sigh: With all the driving my days are 10-12 hours and I am only really paid for the time with the kids. so......I am broke, and tired. Not much time for taking photos. Oh well....

I was about to just copy and paste my comment from the other pic. Hehe. But that's not really cool.

Anyways, I like this one more, between the two. I think it's the green tinge. Was this through a window too?

myuh In reply to ginjin3 [2004-12-07 05:02:17 +0000 UTC]

Hehe thanks...this was shot through a crack in the wooden door, and the fuzzy left side is from part of the wood being in the frame...I knew it would be there when I took the shot, but I couldn't avoid it...and it turned out for the better. I think it gives the photo more character. Also the green tint is from scanning the negative in true color instead of black and white. Some film/negatives have more brownish or sepia or true grey tones, but this film had a green cast to it...I liked the effect a lot...so a lot of my Bodie shots were negative scanned in true color because it gave them a neat feel. Again thank you for your kind comments. You should definitely go to Bodie if you come to California...though it is a ghost town and kinda in the middle of nowhere. Worth it though.
