I've been working on this for a while. It was a bit of an experiment, since I was working with three different light sources, being two different colors. The scanner kinda messed up the way the shading was, I tried to edit it... but its ok, not too different from the original. Sorry for her ugly hand and long arm
they're a bit darker in the original so you don't see them as well as you do here.I did use references for the vegitation of Atlantis; I looked at some screencaps from the movie to look at the backgrounds(who ever did the background art of that movie is AWESOME!), but I noticed that Atlantis has no flowers..... wel, except there are some in the pond before the king... but the rest of the place has no flowers.
Done with Prismacolor pencils.
Anyway, this is princess Kida(Kidagakash) from Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Love that movie!

I really like this one. The way you are able to obtain the dark shadows using colored pencils is supurb. I love the detail you drew into this picture....especially the layers of colors in her skin and the leaves. Fantastic work of art. Thanks for sharing.

*gawks* Didn't you use ANY references for that face. And is that normal pencils or watercolor?

I used a base face if you will... a face in the same position, but I changed the eyes, nose, mouth, and the face shape somewhat. I used prismacolor pencils. They are almost crayon-like pencils.

They're nothing like regular colored pencils, unless you get a verithin(sp?) version. but these are more.. waxy, so they blend really well. You can even go over another color if you don't like it. Like I had orange on a piece of art work, didn't like it, so i went over with blue and it didn't create any strange colors

That sounds really great actually. At the moment, colouring my drawigs at all is rather the exception than the rule, so I'm trying to figure out what to get that will work with all sorts of pictures. My pastel chalks don't really work with gloomy vampires fx.
