Great idea.Β When I was first seriously studying my art, I studied the pen drawings of Charles Dana Gibson to exhaustion.Β It helped tremendously and I executed original artwork in that time period that I could not replicate today without returning to that level of practice.

Gibson was long dead by the time I took him as my "mentor" - he was a turn of the century illustrator ( www.art.com/gallery/id--a62481β¦)Β but hisΒ images were easy to find and therefore an abundant source of study material.Β I also used to spend a lot of time at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston with my sketchbook studying composition and value and techniques of painters, esp. the Pre-Raphaelites.
