Description
To speak visual means to convey your thoughts through a medium that is discernible by the sense of sight. Visual arts come in incalculable varieties of form, all of which speak to viewers visually. The purpose of these art forms is to express to people images of feelings and concepts that would otherwise be impossible to convey through the spoken word. In this piece, I sought to exhibit the endless design possibilities of using primitive shapes in composing a scene. Some shapes stayed low poly and the others went to become abstractly defined shapes that are significantly higher in poly counts. My purpose here is not to display realism at all but instead to depict a scene composed of mostly primitive shapes and clean minimalistic shadings. The image in my mind was something of a brightly colored world with glossy surfaces and floating structures. I wasn't thinking of something magical and dreamy that would be desirable to live in. Instead of wanted to build a world that is a pleasure to look at but doesn't make enough sense to want to be in. This is the world I have spoken visually through this piece. With all those criteria for myself in mind, this is what I have created. I can say that I have stuck with the plan throughout. Though I cannot say that I am completely happy with this piece as I do not believe that any art work can ever be perfect, but this result was what I have aimed for and spoken visually with.Modeled in Autodesk Maya 2009.
Rendered with Mental Ray.
Clouds and various vexel textures done in Photoshop CS3.

Nice work man! I love it! I disagree though with the fact no artwork could be perfect: a piece of artwork is perfect when the designer achieves the goal he had set his mind to with the piece of artwork.

I would see achieving that goal as just being `finished` rather than perfect. Then there's also the argument that if something can be perfect, why make more? But the biggest reason why I can't call anything perfect is because a couple months later I'm going to look at my work and think its shit. Oh well, artist mentalities~
Anyhow, thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it.

Yeah well that's all a matter of taste isn't it? Hehe, i recognize the thing where you look at it in a couple of months and think it's shit lol, but that's good i think, that's the way you keep getting better and demand the best of yourself

Very creative. It creates the impression of a city without looking much like a city at all (the not-quite-street-signs, for example).
