Description
This is the first test casting I made of my Carnotaurus sastrei sculpture. It´s still work in progress, since I have yet to make a foundation for the sculpture. The body had to be a hollow cast, to make sure the one leg can support all the weight.
I´m sorry for the bad picture quality! Some of the finer details are not visible, due to the bad light situation.
I will make some better pictures, as soon as I´m finished with all the sculpting work!

Das sieht großartig aus!
Ich bin beeindruckt vom Kopf. Diese ganzen Details.
Auch die Füße sehen richtig klasse aus.
Da bin ich echt aufs Endergebnis gespannt.

Danke!
Ich hoffe, ich finde die nächsten Tage Zeit, um das Modell zu bemalen und ein paar
bessere Fotos zu machen...

No problem! I separated the arms and legs from the body. Also had to separate the skull from the lower jaw and body to make sure the inside of the mouth can be cast properly. It basically looked like this:
Then I mounted the parts on a board and built a mold box of cardboard around the pieces. Mixed and poured the silicone after that. For the body I brushed on the silicone and built a mother mold of epoxy putty around it.
Casting the resin is the tricky part. I have to use wire and toothpicks to get the airbubbles out of every niche and crevice. I also use that baby powder technique you told me about some time ago! It actually works quite well!
That´s basically it! It´s by far not perfect, but it works!

that is awesome. how did you go about the separation process? are all the pegs and pegwholes premade along with the sculpting process, or did you finished the entire sculpture, and cut it into section and created the peg wholes then?

I used a sculpting wax instead of super sculpey this time. So it was relatively easy to do along the sculpting process.
Maybe I´ll try it the other way next time. The separation is also pretty easy with this stuff. I just used a heated knife to cut
through the wax. Also no internal armature was needed, which made it even easier.

Thanks!
Nope, it was cast in several pieces and assembled afterwards.

Ok, sorry. I didn't realize this was the CX5 sculpt I saw earlier. It looks seamless. Good job! I would like to try molding and casting myself someday. Did you make poured silicone block molds?

Thanks! Yeah, I did my best to hide the seams.
I made a brush-on mold with a support shell for the body.
The rest are block molds, which I cut open afterwards.
