Description
Oil on Canvas: 48 x 60.Removing the Thorn came to me in a dream in 2008 when I began to journal about the path of life. In the dream, a white haired man came to my door. Wanting to buy my house on the spot, he handed me a handful of cash. As I invited him inside I explained to him that I was only renting. I offered to show him a map of the area but he didnβt seem too interested. I looked for one anyway while he sat at my dining room table. When I returned with the map, this painting is what I saw sitting in front of him as though he had just painted it. I was drawn in by the unconventional Jesus whose Lordship is not the clipping of claws as we might fear, but rather the digging out of our deepest hindrances so that the lion within us can be liberated. The symbolism of the peacock that emerges from the lionβs chest represents the beauty that comes after we surrender our brokenness to the healer rather than trying to conceal our limp.

WOW. DUDE. FOR REAL. I LOVE THIS. A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TAKE ON MY MAN JESUS THAN YOU WOULD USUALLY SEE, PLUS WHAT TALENT. THEN YOU ADD THE WISDOM & DEPTH BEHIND IT ALL. THIS IS GOING IN BOTH COLLECTIONS FOR ME, THE MAIN MAN ( ALL ABOUT GOD) AND THE CREAM ( MY FAVE OF THE FAVES). TRULY GREAT WORK HERE. THANK YOU .

I love the concept, I love the story
Well, to me, the peacock looks just like standing in front of the chest of the lion, not emerging from it. And the lion's face looks kinda blank.
Amazing job, anyway.

I must say that my personal fascination with modern day media makes the healer look like Thorin Oakenshield from `The Hobbit` instead of like Jezus.
That does not mean that I like the work any less though.
I am rather interested by what can be found by the lights in the background, to me it looks like that is where the Lion got his wounds in the first place.

Yeah the lights represent domestication. The peacock. Is pointing his beak toward the wild, The narrative has a lot to do with the masculine soul, because that's a huge aspect of what I want to speak about. That raw, barbaric, full of valor masculinity, is making the journey from endangered species, to a thing of fiction only fit for entertainment. The circus cats looking hypnotically through cages.
I appreciate that you looked into the painting for symbolic elements.

In the dream I had of this painting, the expression of the lion was unforgettable. I think what ended up on the canvas is in the ballpark, but not quite as gnarly overall. Thanks!

Getting it in the ballpark with only the one dream to go by is still quiet impressive! It certainly must have been unforgettable in that regard! You're quite welcome; keep up the fantastic work! <3

The entire dream was pretty incredible. The painting was a small part of it. It's pretty amazing what our minds come up with in the dream state.
