The Sonic series,IF it's still going on, made a claim about #125 or so, that Mobius is earth in the far future. Mankind, for the most part*, evolved into various anthro species, after an appalling thermonuclear war, cloaked in legend under the term "Days of Fury". The Xorda were responsible for the holocaust. I STOPPED reading at #135 or so.
* The human race was almost extinct, but various radically mutated groups appeared. Two unchanged groups survived, one founding the underground civilization of Station Square, and the other included Robotnik, Snively, and others who ,after returning to Mobius, moved to Station Square.
