Description I finally got my old camera back, but it's making me realize how much I need a new one. I'd love to hear any suggestions on what to buy!

During the Shamu Story, they were showing how Orkid was able to pair multiple behaviors. She is such a smart girl!

Mammals will lose body heat when they exhale. Because killer whales exhale less frequently than land mammals, they lose less body heat.

Species: Killer Whale; Orkid
Location: SeaWorld San Diego

are they dangerous for humans in ocean ?

No, they aren't. There has never been a documented case of a killer whale attacking a human in the ocean. They have different techniques for hunting their prey (seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins, sharks, rays), but because humans are not found in the ocean, they haven't developed any techniques to hunt people.

I love the Nikon brand. I personally shoot with a D80, which ran me about $800 (with lenses). The cheaper Nikon DSLRs run for about $400, and they're very worthwhile.

Here's a list of Nikon users on dA who shoot marine mammals (so it's a similar environment), and the kind of camera they use (of the top of my head):

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to take a look at their photos. I just got a bad taste from Nikon after buying too many of those $99 CoolPix and them lasting less than a year. But I'm willing for someone to prove me wrong. ^_^

I am in LOVE with my d80. I take it everywhere, and it's so durable. It's been splashed by dolphins and orcas and it still survives.

Wow! That's impressive then! Does it take really nice action shots? That seems to be the trouble with my point and click. If I get the timing right, it's out of focus. If I get the focus right, the timing is all wrong.

Very nice! I definitely want that type of clarity in my photos. And I love the close up and how you can see how the dolphin breaks the water. Do you use anything to get this close of a shot?

Hmm. I'm still new to SLR's, so I'll have to take a look. But at least now I have some information to look up.

Wow! Spectacular shot. I love the way they seem to stay in the air longer then they should.
