What the freak is is cowbell, that has been puzzling me since I saw Bowsers Kingdom on youtube, I seriously want to know what Cowbell is!!

In that song Don't Fear the Reaper by The Seasons, one of the instruments is an actual cowbell. In a skit on Saturday night Live they made a joke about the cowbell in the song.
