Ulises and a 2-year-old little girl who was a little too curious. She was staring in awe when Uli swam by.

To me, this symbolizes the next generation of humans being educated about these amazing creatures in not only their majesticness and size, but also the sadness and possible inferiority that they experience (what Uli must be feeling). These two come from two different worlds- one from the world where he was ripped from his family and placed in a theme park where he is forced to submit to human authority; the other from a world where she's sheltered by a family that loves her that she can run back to whenever she feels scared or alone.

Is this really the future? To keep such a clever, cunning and graceful animal deprived of its natural ability to fend for itself and confined to four glass/concrete walls while the next generation of humans grows up observing that it's okay to look on and watch while everyone around him/her is screaming "Shamu! It's Shamu," and be completely unaffected?

I choose to stay on the fence when it comes to the controversy between pro and anti-captivity, but I think it's time I voice my anti-cap opinion for once. This is something I ponder a lot, and when I look at this photo, I can't help but feel a great amount of pain for these animals and question whether it truely is okay to put their lives in our hands when our greed exponentially increases by the decade... What's going to happen to these animals when we, as if we ever really could in the first place, can't properly care for them and they go extinct because of our selfishness and belittlement of their God-given ability to be what they are- KILLER WHALES.

We've learned so much from cetaceans in the last half-century, even though so many have died, we've come as far as finding ways to re-populate a species by artificial insemination (so the parents never actually have to meet) and figuring out how easily it is to manipulate them to do what we want by means of bribery and/or withholding their food. But is it possible that, now, we've gone too far? Is this really what we want our children to be exposed to- oppression just to prove that we're the dominant species? Or is this just simply our attempt at playing God?
