Description
-"Though founded on pragmatism, Henry and Elizabeth’s marriage had nevertheless blossomed throughout the uncertainty and upheaval of the previous eighteen years. This was a marriage of ‘faithful love’, of mutual attraction, affection and respect, from which the king seems to have drawn great strength -indeed, it was the kind of marriage that their second son, Prince Henry [future Henry VIII] would spend his whole life trying to find. With Elizabeth’s burial, the lights went out all over Henry VII’s court. The reign was plunged into crisis. Henry, shattered, would never be the same again."
- Thomas Penn, Henry VII - The Winter King.
"The King remained in seclusion at Richmond for six weeks after the funeral, prostrate with grief and so ill with quinsy—a complication of tonsillitis that can cause breathing difficulties—that it was said he was near death. He was unable to swallow and could barely open his mouth. His mother came to nurse him, bringing sweet wine and ordering physic for him. It seems that the loss of Elizabeth [...] impacted badly on Henry; as for the remaining six years of his life, his health steadily declined. By 1504 he had become “a weak man and sickly, not likely to be no long-lived man."
- Alison Weir, Elizabeth of York: a Tudor Queen and her world.

Henry Tudor and Elizabeth of York
because if you want to read about a great relationship, read books about these two, and by 'books' i mean REAL books by REAL historians! the two books i quote are great
-------------------------
so indeed, this drawing shares a lot of similarities with my "her wake " about Thomas and Martha. what can i say? i love to draw widowers being total wreck without their love. *oops* ANYWAY, here something with Henry and Elizabeth. I used her 'official' portrait as reference... i hope you like it. It took me an entire week to finish.
media: piece of paper, pencil, hands, photoshop

I am currently reading Alison Weir's biography of Elizabeth of York in conjunction with Carolly Erickson's biography of Queen Mary I of England, Elizabeth's granddaughter.

And now I have to check out those books, as well! I can't tell you how much I adore this piece; the emotion, the lighting, how well you conveyed a two dimensional piece of art behind him, *his hands* - there's so much rage and despair there without a facial expression, and it's perfect. Utterly beautiful.

He was definitely devastated by her death and here is an interesting bit, apparently when he made a half hearted short lived attempt to remarry he sent his ambassadors with a description of what he wanted in a wife and they apparently matched the description of Elizabeth.
Love your art work on the two.

This is beautiful I especially love Elizabeth's eyes and how you used an actual portrait for Elizabeth the gold hue of her hair which her son inherited ,and your use of lighting which is very effective. I'm thinking of reading the Alison Weir book about Elizabeth of York is it any good?

Alison Weir's book is very good. there are some parts boring because they are list of items she bought or the size of the rooms in a palace but expect that, it's very intersting and shows us the unique relationship between her and Henry
and thank you for your compliments!

It might be some time as it's a full-length novel I'm working on, but I am taking a bit of a liberty in it...because although I agree that Henry VII loved Elizabeth, after her death, there was a rumour going round that he intended to marry Katherine of Aragon, and that's what the story mainly deals with.

if you follow this, i hope you will follow what is the most probable according to the personality of Henry: just for political purpose and probably for money since he already paid the dowry. nothing romantical at all or even sexual.
i just hated what Philippa Gregory wrote, turning Henry into a lecher wanting Katherine only for her ass, which is completely stupid and insulting.

I didn't like the way that was written either. Though in my story I did make Katherine more attracted to Henry. I wanted Henry to be a likeable character in the story so, instead of him being a lech, he genuinely cares for Katherine, but at the same time, the opportunities to show his politics and money schemes were too good to miss so that's also one of his motives for wanting to marry her. In every other respect, his character does follow the idea of what Henry would have been like. Henry VII was one of the greatest political schemers of his day, and I say that in the nicest sense possible.

I'd love to see a Richard III and Anne Neville picture, that's probably my favourite couple at the moment. I really admire the way you drew Elizabeth's dress and gable headdress, just so pretty

At the moment, he's not really sure how he feels about her, his emotions are all screwed up because of Elizabeth's death. Plus she keeps coming onto him! I'm still only on the first draft. Chances are it will be massively changed to suit what most people would like to read.

something accurate, like me lol
i mean, Henry never had mistress. and i highly doubt he felt any romantical feelings for his daughter in law. she didn't speak english at all and was treated a bit harshly by him.
but well... it's your work. do what you like and f**k the others

oh yes! his character degradated a lot without her. she had probably a kind of soothing effect on his mood. and... well she was very popular, so without her, he probably became very paranoiac
