THE LINKS ARE HERE IN THE ARTIST'S COMMENTS[EDIT] Updated on December 25 2010...
...new links from letraset.com.
...removed dead links.
Recently I had some frustrating experience with marker coloring. Well I realized I just don’t figured out some tricks with just practicing so I thought I would look for some tutorials, but as I am mainly a promarker user I had a bit difficulties to find some. So I thought it would be helpful to share my mini collection of tutorials with all the promarker users. Most of them are scrapbooking/cardmaking examples, because I mainly use my markers for scrapbooking, but they are really usefull for beginners (like choosing colors).
If you have some usefull promarker/tria marker tutorial to share with me or just some good tips, juste note me or leave here a comment so I can add to my collection I would appreciate it…THANK YOU!
BASIC INFORMATIONS

You are welcome! I hope the links will help you further (some of them are really old so they might not work as I have collected these links around 2011-2012 ). I am an self-taught promarker user as well, so I understand how hard to find some tips and tricks on it.

Thank you so much for this! It reality helps!
I just got my first set of Promarkers today, but I've been having problems with the blender pen. Whenever I use it over a couple of colours, not only does it not blend at all, but it makes the colours go really white and fade. Have you ever had this problem?

About the blender pen you have to know it actually the name of blender kind of misleading, because the cntains just special aclohol (the same as in the markers) without color so it won't blend, but soften and dilute the color. So what you experienced is completly normal.
I mostly mostly use blender to soften the edges when I would like connect a color to white like this picture [link] on the left bottom part, the color slowly fades to white, while on the top right you can see the orignal blue color I diluted with the blender (you can find a nice youtube video of it here [link] and this tutorial explains a bit different method [link] )or of I have would like to have really pale shades.
To blend different color there is actualy two ways:
- dry: when you lay a base color then wait to dry and overcolor it with same color or with another where you want shades, etc. Better to use lighter colors as basecolor. This cause hard edges and looks like cellshading.
- wet: when you do not wait the base color to dry and and overcolor it with same color or with another where you want shades, etc. Better to use lighter colors as basecolor.. This cause much smoother effect. (I prefer this one)
If you do not understand anything just let me know

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful.
I think I'll just have to experiment with the blender until I get the results that I'm looking for.
Once again, thanks a lot!

my local art supply store wanted to get rid of its promarker for prismacolor markers, so i ended up getting the promarkers for cheaper and i've been using them for a year now

It is a pity, because they are really good and cheap ^^ Yep I have some copics too, but somehow it is really expensive for a starving student like me and I would like to try prismas, but the shipping is reaaaly expensive to Europe, even on ebay too, so I will stick to my cheap markers ^^

MMWoodcock In reply to Namtia [2010-09-19 15:27:34 +0000 UTC]
i dont like prisma color markers that much because they dont have blending qualities at all, bleed horribly, and the colors are SO bold D:
and yeah copics are expensive Xd i have my basic rainbow with a few pastelies on the side. But i'm like you and blend coloring penils+markers so i dont have to buy ALL the shades
i've got 26 markers .... thats like $150 for all of them.
tooo much! i shall have to try promarker

Actually, PRISMA'S do blend it's called the WET on wet Technique. You have to do it in a fast amount of time though and get your colours ready that your going to be using to blend with.
Take a
Yellow
Orange
and Pink of prisma,
and Colour with yellow, then colour with orange then colour with pink overlap the pink with the yellow and pink and do that until you get a nice horizon like setting ;3~! Someone taught me this! Because I thought prisma's didn't blend until someone told me about this technique that works.

MMWoodcock In reply to Iiwi [2013-03-16 13:58:11 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure that i'm fast enough for it I'm kind of reluctant to use markers... obviously I'm not confident in using them, but currently any chance I get is for an actual project. I can't risk screw up a image that would have to be professionally scanned (bigger than a tabloid). I suppose i'll have to work with them on doodles until I get the method down.
I also think i am not able to use them since I only have your basic colors- like 12 markers To get a good incremental blend, I would need 3-4 shades/tints of every color.

Iiwi In reply to MMWoodcock [2013-03-20 00:53:20 +0000 UTC]
Well that's where practice comes in oxo! But you have to really want it, it doesn't have to be SUPER lighting speed fast, but it has to be fast enough before it dries.
I think if you keep practicing with them, you would get better with them! ^^ So don't give up.
Nah, You can just use those random colours and stilll see the blend work.

That is waaay too expensive. I think they are cost so much because it is japanese.
It is sad to hear that from prismas D: I would like to have different types of markers, but it not that easy to get some good markers. I guess primsas are a no-no for a while and stick with letraset and buy the promarker's "big brothers" the tria markers

MMWoodcock In reply to Namtia [2010-09-21 11:41:28 +0000 UTC]
perhaps prismas has multiple kinds of markers i just know mine are way too bold like a crayola kind XD and bleed through paper like crazy lol
and well if i bouht 200 of them for $250 or so its a LOT cheaper in the long wrong but eh my tablet cost that much >.<

Iiwi In reply to MMWoodcock [2013-03-16 05:00:07 +0000 UTC]
Your not using the right paper ;x;! That's why the prisma's are bleeding.
Here's a list of some papers.
Cardstock Wausau
Winsor & Newton Bristol Board Extra Smooth
Canson Marker Illusrator Board
Bleedproof paper of any kinds you just have to look for Bristol and try bleedproof marker paper, to see which ones work the best to your liking!
