I was very sad to learn that a great monument was destroyed by religious fanatics. It's frightening to see that things like that still happen, even now, in the 21st century.

I think so too.
There was a series introducing the past civilization with state broadcasting in the mid-1970s. The title was "heritage for the future".
I knew the ruins of Bamiyan on that program.

There were many great TV series in the 70s and 80s!
I was a baby in the mid-70s, but in the 80s many programs were shown on TV that had been made the previous decade. Some fantastic documentaries that I loved to watch as a child.
