Uh, I'm not exactly sure what I was trying to say here - perhaps a meta on Ruby's character? Perfect timing really, considering recent events. I don't know, she's just really difficult to pin down, secrets laid over secrets. One minute she's a bambi-eyed, tough but vulnerable demon who wants to help Sam (which I love) and the next she's a sexy temptress feeding blood to him (which different, and I'm kinda 'meh' about). *MUSING*That's not to say I don't like her! I do! I just need stability in my interpretation
SO, what are YOUR feelings on Ruby? (and by asking that question, yes, I have prepared myself for wank)

lol. I see. I didn't count Castiel in that way. He's more of the lost teacher leading the blind if you will. But he does fit in the way you mean too.

Despite everything, I really like this piece. I love the way you blend each caption of Ruby into the polaroid snapshots. I love that each picture has one of her eyes, her lips and chin, half of her face or part of her face. Very very good cropping. I also love how each of these bleed, it sort of seems like she's normal in one sense in control of who she is and who she wants to be (to Sam and Dean), the next her eyes and lips are bloody or her makeup is running (her darker, more uncontrollable side coming out to play). Guess it comes with the job description. My favorite spot is when you added her demon eyes in the top right corner.
I think the lighting and the colors all help to bring out your subtle depiction of Ruby's imbalance.
To me this seems like controlled chaos.

I'm glad you like the technical aspects \o/! Cropping has such an amazing impact (a lot of icon-er's, graphic and panel artists use it) but I never really guessed. Most definitely an eye-opener.
Interestingly, people have been reading it in two ways. Some people see Ruby as vulnerable in this art piece (where the multiple images represent broken personality, blood/make-up running is pretty tragic lol), others see the deceptive, controlling, manipulating side. See, I love that your own interpretation of Ruby affects how you see her in this art. It appears that I am a genius and have made something so ambivalent, you can read it any way you wanna! haha, *grows a big head*

Cropping is important when trying send a message or an emotion or just to make the art interesting. I use it in my icons (you can check them out at my LJ). Yeah I'm glad you've found out about cropping.
You did a really good job with this. I like that you've created something that can be interpreted in many ways. A lot of people love your art.

On a different note, today while I was in school, I decided to use the computer labs. So I tried out painter....and I did my first paint over. I'm kind of excited about it. Could I show it to you by e-mail? I'm not sure what else I want to do with it yet.

I saw your response! The next little bit of my Sam montage (after the wtf? faces while being locked up) is the bloody Sam (sucking blood from the demon and possibly ruby, but without her actually being in the piece).

I actually-- Well, Ruby is a sore spot for me. I like her when she's being the cute, dewy eyed helpful demon, and even when she's all badass and protective and such. But I really don't like the new facet to her personality, with the whole blood drinking and seductive-ness. It really bothers me, because like you said, the character is inconsistent.

hey hey, I'm glad you noticed that! I think its kind of cool, in some ways and frustrating in others, that Ruby's character IS so ambiguous. That translates really well to polaroid snaps and it was pretty much the funnest thing ever seeing how many different Ruby's I could pull out of the one image.
See, you're kinda the same as me. I like the 'dewy-eyed' (lol) helpful demon so long as she can still bitch and kick Sams ass (they really had a nice balance mid-season). But the blood drinking was boring simply becuase it didn't appear to me as in-character! Giving blood was not the issue, it was the way it seemed irrelevant to Ruby that it might help Sam fight the war, but that it was more important to be whatever 'temptress' theme the writers had going on haha.
I don't know, ramble ramble, don't listen to me!

Yeah, I see that. I mean, that's why I loved Katie Cassidy's Ruby, because she was always a total bitch, but she still did her best to help. But mid season, this Ruby did have that too-- and I wish it would come back.
The thing about the blood that I didn't like was that it really seemed anti-climatic to me. They built it all up, like it was some big secret, so I was expecting something way out there and demonic and horrible for Sam to be doing. But then it was just like... Oh. Drinking blood. Okay, well sure.
Pfft, rambling is good. And besides, half the time I don't make any sense to anyone other then myself. So it's all good!

It's interesting you say it was anti-climatic! I was really BZUH about what was happening to ruby's character that I didn't really think about. But yes, it is a bit anti-climatic right? To be honest, I was thinking it was going to be their relationship but that was revealed to Dean anyway. HUH. Blood drinking...is a tad cliche?

Exactly, I think it's the fact that it's a big cliche that really bothered me the most. It just seemed... Not so shocking. I mean, as the show has progressed it's developing into an interesting idea, now that Sam is all addicted, and Dean knows about it and all. (Last episode darn near killed me, seriously.) But it just... I thought they could have done better, right?

Interesting. I preferred Katie Cassidy's Ruby; she seemed more, I don't know, focused? I suppose.
But Genevieve Cortese is doing a great job and playing a really complex, difficult character.
Regardless, this is a really nice interpretation of the character, Nargs. Kudos.

When Cortese was introduced, I definitely disliked her interpretation and I missed the old one. The new one has definitely grown on me though! The only thing I want more is to see a more solid personality - not one that swings between two different characters. I don't believe that's the fault of Cortese, I think it's actually more to do with the way the writers are taking Ruby.
