Y'know, I've always thought that changing into a werewolf would be EXCEEDINGLY painful, since your bones are shifting and your nails are expanding.

Right, but certain levels of pain actually make the body go numb, so you wouldn't actually feel it until after. I imagine it as more of an aching right after they transform, and maybe some pain at the beginning and end of the transformation.
