Dying in the Shadows...Commission for *ravekitten .
So, I learned a really cool and quick way to render brick and brick like textures while I did this. Ialso learned that colors just kind of vanish at night. (I spent a lot of time outside looking at my neighbors flower pots). And! Drawing dying/dead flowers is pretty complex. The way the petals fall and shrivel up... I have never spent so much time on Google. Anyway, I was trying to show the character using her abilities in a very subtle way... Just know you never want her shadow to fall over you... >_>;;.

So, okay, here's one of the biggest reason it's taken me forever to finish commissions. I felt like my art was lame. I decided to break away from the standards (for me) of a character standing there looking cool with HINTS of a background. Boringness to the max is what my art was becoming. Boring on top of extra lame!
So I went all out. Full blown illustration/animation looking type stuff. I figured if I can do a comic page with panels full of art like this, what's one stand alone piece? I like the idea of a single piece telling a story. I'm very proud of myself and I hope *ravekitten likes this XD;; She'll be seeing it for the first time whenever she gets on to dA today.

That is so creepy how the flowers died! I really like how the moonlight is shinning against her back though. Makes this picture seem more mystical, especially with her magical eyes, lovely work here!~

I liked your art before, but this just blows my mind how well it's done. The colors (and lack thereof), the setting, the nuances of the character... all just really nicely put together. And I can relate on the backgrounds thing- they're the bane of my existence(sp).

I know what you mean about 'lame art'. I have the same problem. If only there was a sure-fire tutorial for inventing good backgrounds and backstories for characters....but this one tells a good story

I think this is pretty darn cool! Nice way of showing Eve's power and that shirt is a neat touch. Your bricks are definitely turned out too. What really makes this scene cohesive is the awesome lighting attention you paid. Well done!

Just fantastic! And Ms, Shatia Hamilton, your work has never been "lame" and I can't imagine it ever will be.
Your work in Mangaka America (I bought the book as a Freshman in high school 5 years ago) inspired me so much that I convinced my parents to get me Photoshop CS3 (we're already on 5, jeze, when did this happen O.O ) and a Wacom tablet-that tok quite a bit of doing and birthday/Christmas present giving up to get, believe you me, haha.
But they have been the best investments! And every time I stray away from the art work, looking at your artwork is always what brings me back in to try again!
