While I still have this fresh in my memory;

At Anime Detour this year I got asked to be on a panel with the amazing ~LannySu and talk about being a professional artist. I say the term 'professional' loosely since I still don't consider myself there yet. Lack of discipline has yet to let me submit to any companies XD;;;. I rambled about my few experiences and I was really glad what I ranted about helped. It was kinda... exciting and overwhelming to witness people hanging onto my every word. We talked about the importance of having a portfolio featuring your BEST work and I realized I actually don't really have one! At least not since college. So I came home that night and made some quick mock ups of what I'd probably do with mine. Most of this work was done within the last year and one of them further back I think... I updated them all though to match my current style. I'll probably use these in my print book at cons from now on too.

These go back to the root of why I got into art/comics/video games. I've always wanted to do concept art or character design. When I'm art-blocking or just art-failing I end up going back to doing character profiles. Over the last year and a half I've made a BIG stock of what I call Non-playable characters. Most of them have no stories and I just enjoy their designs. My range of genres and types of characters is a bit limited. I like less is more too so the characters aren't bogged down with "COOL DESIGNS" and come off more practical. I'm not so great at weapon designs either so they have none. I wonder if that makes them less cool...? Most fall into the fantasy: beautiful women and men, criteria. It's kinda obvious I'm a big Final Fantasy fan too I think. But again that's where my roots rest. I need to work on doing burly-he man-men this year. LOL!

Anyway, I hope this helps to give an idea of what a portfolio could look like. I don't think there's any REAL rules outside of show a wide range of styles/work and use work that's most up to date and you best.
