Colorado blue columbines, growing from a rocky outcropping high above Mayflower Gulch bear witness to an incredible show of sunset light. Light like this is rare, and the kind photographers strive to find. This particular light is what I call "gap light." There was a low hanging blanket of dark storm clouds covering the entire sky, but a small gap in the clouds at the horizon allows the sun to peak through for just a minute or so at sunset. The direct light of the sun combined with the ambient light reflecting off the clouds above are what makes this light so intense It also helps light the foreground, which is in the shadows, and much darker. I Triple stacked graduated neutral density filters to even out the light in the scene. The colors in this photo are untouched and represent the true intensity of the scene.

Beautiful ! This might be my favorite from your whole gallery surpassing even your Chimney Rock sunset shot. I was actually up in Mayflower Gulch this past weekend and had similar, if not quite as intense, sunset light but unfortunately had failed to find a foreground composition as good as this.

Beautiful Color Red from the state I love and my most favorite flowers in the world! Thanks for sharing your method for capturing this beautiful image! May I ask what type of ND filters you use? Are they screw on ones or square plates you hold by hand or have a holder for them?
Love the work Nate!
