Unbelievably lucky shot! It's beautiful. The only bears I've ever seen have been in captivity.

great job. suprised you were able to get this close, I saw two bears in the water near Yellowstone on sunday and there were 6 rangers attending to the public ensuring everyone stayed WAY WAY away.

yeah i got pretty lucky on this one, everyone was watching it from far away and then it went into the woods.. everyone watching it left and i turned down a different road hoping it would randomly pop out there and amazingly thats exactly what happened

Come back in the fall, no tourists no rangers just you and the wildlife its a great time to be there....even better than the spring...anyhow fantastic picture, im quite envious as bears seem to be tricky for me to get a good shot of!

HOW did you get to Jackson from Yellowstone? all the roads in the park headed that direction are closed???? thats one heck of a detour man. How cool that would of been to shoot alongside your mentor, man you should of at least asked him for his card or something! we need to figure out how to take over the jackson photo gallerys when he and the other amazing landscape guy decide to retire

actually going through jackson is the fastest route home for me, crazy as it sounds. its a pain in the ass to get to yellowstone from colorado when only the north and west entrances are open.

This is an amazing shot. You don't see many grizzly bear photographs on here, especially one as nice as this.

great shot you've really captured the bear's essence and nice to have a wide enough crop to place it in it's environment

I don't know.. as big as he/she is I don't think your car would of helped you. I've seen what a bear that size can do to a car.

Wow! What a fantastic shot. Grizzlies are just amazing, but gosh they scare me! I'd have to be pretty far away before I was comfortable photographing them. Beautiful.

Great shot. I am curious though, how close do you actually get to these animals and what kinds of lenses do you use to capture them?

lol, me neither. we only have black bears out here, which are a lot smaller. they're so shy you don't have to worry about them like the grizzlies. unless you get between mama and her cub...
