The elk rut is in full swing, and evening in the valleys are filled with these calls. I sat and watched this massive bull for an hour or so as he kept his harem in check and made sure no other bulls got too close.

that is sooo eerie and so weird! I had no idea they would sould like that. They sound like some winged creature flying out of Mordor in Lord of the Rings, with a Ringwraith on their backs.

I've been to that park, and I heard their calls...It's a very cool noise, really. Not what you would expect from an animal like that.

I think the elk call is one of the most alien/exotic things I've ever heard.
