This small animal, a relative of rabbits is only about six inches long and weighs only a few ounces. What they lack in size they definitely make up for in character. Always on the move and aways making plenty of noise to let you know that you're in their territory. One of the things I find most endearing about pikas is that they always have this comical, terrified look on their face. This is due, in large part, to the fact that there are an assortment of animals on the tundra that would love to make a snack out of these little fur-balls. I cringe at using the word "cute" to describe an animal, but its hard to deny it with these little guys.

They are certainly fun and a challenge to photograph. I haven't' seen one in quite a while...struck out on Collared Pika in Alaska.

There have been sightings of these guys at the very top of Multnomah Falls in Oregon.
Will have to climb up there and sit for a while to see if I can find one.

Great shot, I would love to see one of these guys someday. I looked for them while in Yellowstone, but no luck

its easier in Colorado where the altitude is super high... you just have to walk out into some scree and sit still for a few minutes and before you know it theyll be all around you

yeah theyre pretty tiny, and super camo in the rocks. its pretty much impossible to sneak up on one so you really need to just sit there and wait. After a few minutes they're all over. this last time one came about an inch from bumping into my leg

mostly in summer. they live up on the tundra so whenever theres snow theyre under the rocks. they stock up grass all summer long and dont hibernate
