Description Created this for my post here:
Should Ai art be regulated? The two main reasons why I can see doing this is:To give the appropriate amount of credit for the actual work done / skill used on an imageTo know if art should appreciated or notWhile these things are nice, how much effort is it really worth putting in to police it? Given that DA is mostly free for everyone to use and enjoy there is going to be little incentive to put in the effort authenticate art at this level. Then there is the other side of the coin where you would be encumbering people who were honest about it and rewarding those who are not. For example, getty images just banned Ai art. Now only the best Ai art users will get their images on there by claiming they were created with legitimate means. Getty will not have a good way to enforce this since detection will mostly be done by hand (it is the nature if Ai art to appear to software as traditional art). Then they have the problem of determining how much of the art can be ai generated or not (1% or 100%?). The monetary risk for getty is much higher than DA and they will still fail at this.Ai art is in it's infancy. So many new features are coming down the pipeline. Not only will quality become indistinguishable from traditional art there are other enhancements as well. Things that will help both traditional digital artists and Ai artists. Like advanced healing tools, object recognition / manipulation, texture generation, mood setting, lighting adjustments. All of these will be Ai driven. These editor tools will mostly be innocuous and should they be regulated? So ask yourself, how far are you willing to go and is it really worth it? And can it really be accomplished? So what is the real solution? People tend to go the route of least resistance and that fits here. Just let people post whatever they want and use whatever tags they want. Worst thing that happens is that traditional artists come to terms and realize art technology is changing (again) and that they will need to implement Ai techniques if they want to keep up with the output from Ai users AND that they will generally not be as recognized for the traditional hard work as they were before. Some artists will stop doing art all together, others will persevere and become more productive. What that will do is eventually expose everyone to ai art and they will start to appreciate art in a different way. Everyone will all develop a healthy amount of skepticism like people developed when photoshop became a thing, they no longer just believed that a photo was real just because it was a photo. Then the world will carry on with this new normal getting all the benefits of Ai art and not be mired down trying to regulate it.To be honest, this is just the tip of the spear when it comes to Ai changes. I believe we are watching a SciFi movie unfold before our eyes. Artists are the first group affected drastically by Ai but soon musicians, developers, game designers, garbage men, baristas, doctors, politicians, everyone will be affected or jobs lost / altered to Ai and robots. In ten years from now the issue with how Ai art is labeled will look quite trivial in comparison to the other disruptions that are coming. So what happens in twenty or fifty years when everything is provided for us? What will humanity look like? Time will tell, but we must be careful how to steer this ship and use our limited focus on the most important parts of integrating with Ai. Those who do integrate with Ai will thrive, those who don't may be fine. But to those who fight against it? I doubt they will survive.
