Aw man, this scene was SO intense!  As a wrestling critic once said about something unrelated, "There are not enough Italian chefs to kiss all the fingers in the world of how awesome this [show] is and at how much I popped at [this scene]."

Excellent job recreating these complicated "machines" from from such a weird angle.  I'm glad Eva could leave such an impact on you and I hope it can inspire you to create more art in the future.

I'm glad you like it and thank you for the praise!
You are far too kind, but - please - take my gratitude anyway... take it!
:]

EVA (or more specific: the original series Neon Genesis Evangelion) is my favourite thing when it comes to enjoying things.
I sure as hell will make more (NGE-related) art in the future.

--- Thanks again!

Thank you so much!
This means a lot to me :]

Yeah, it looks pretty empty
but that can be changed...
someday. I‘m practising
landscapes at the moment.

If I make a B-version later
on, it has to look decent at
least.

Then, it is time for you...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rof6qB… (TIP:  When you start watching Rebuild of Evangelion, make certain you watch the upgraded 1.11 version, which fixes some significant film-to-DVD transfer issues that the earlier 1.01 release had.)

My dad inadvertently introduced me to Evangelion in 1995 when I was 14 years old.  (Yes- I was the correct age to pilot an EVA in the same year that it was originally broadcast in Japan when I was introduced to it.)  When I started actually watching it dubbed on VHS in 1996, my.  Mind.  Was.  Blown.  I thought that all that anime had to offer was Gundam, Pokemon and robotech Macross, but this show introduced me to adult themes (not necessarily sexual themes) without overwhelming my still-developing mind or repulsing me with gore-y graphics like Akira.  The visual style and concepts of the series also had a lot to do with that- I have always been a fan of transforming giant robots be it from Transformers or the Super Sentai Series, but Eva was one of the first that had giant robots cyborgs that didn't change shape, and didn't have heroes of good character traits that were instead reluctant saviors with significant flaws that were being intentionally ignored to keep them just stable and healthy enough to fight.

Unfortunately, the massive BANG! that came with the arrival of the cyberpunk-themed Eva into the world also brought with it some not-so-subtle problems- most notably a ravenous fan base which can still easily rival experienced Trekkers and obnoxious bronies that has shifted away from the philosophical, moral and emotional issues at hand and instead focused on blindly eating up as much moe merchandising as possible [yes, I own a Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Cybertron Commander Convoy (Mode EVA), youtu.be/3uDQMKwg_1o ].  And this has gotten to the point where Hideaki Anno is now thought of as 'the George Lucas of Japan', he is seated right next to Gundam-creator Yoshiyuki Tomino for a poorly-made series that exploded far beyond its expectations (where do you think all of those huge awkward silent pauses in the latter-half of NGE came from!?), and people know Evangelion more from its outrageous merchandising rights than they do the actual anime itself!

[When you have to get into red-faced debates about how Pacific Rim (2014) is not "a rip-off of Evangelion", then you will understand what I mean.]

OMG (if there is one) ... Thank! You!  Thank you.
Seriously, I appreciate your text, EVAUnit4A (is Kaworu your thing?)

I think we can agree on the fact that I'm not able to write an answer worthy of your comment... thanks, man! I never... never would've thought someone was willing to write something like that (FOR ME!!).
--- Okay, okay, where do I start?

Well, first of all, I have already seen all three Rebuilds (1.11, 2.22 & 3.33). I like 'em - but not as much as the original series for some reason. They are nice to watch (and somewhat of a continuation? Also, Shinji and Rei get to do more with one another <3) Actually, there are a few reasons why I prefer NGE to RoE:
I absolutely, in all honesty DO NOT LIKE the amount of CGI that is used in 'modern Anime'. Maybe I'm a bit naive but I just don't like it. Seeing the evangelions not only behave like some kind of giant ninja-cats (doing acrobatics and stuff, like there was no gravity at all --> 3.33) but also making me blink a few times because their polygon models don't fit the overall animation style. I still prefer the 'good-old-90s-handdrawn-style' (yep, I am naive). Not only when it comes to EVA but Cowboy Bebop, Patlabor, Ghost In The Shell, AKIRA, ...the list goes on. I find that the look of it feels more animeish (if that's a thing). Maybe it's just nostalgia for a time when I wasn't even born.
The second reason I don't like the Rebuilds as much is the German voice actress of Misato Katsuragi. They just switched people! That's outrageous. Nearly everyone came back from the show except sweet Julia Kaufmann (Wanna listen? Click on "Hörproben" www.synchronkartei.de/sprecher… ). I adore her voice, but she didn't return   |:-{
I know that watching Anime in its original dub is law (experiencing anything in its original form is law; NGE is also kind of the original version of the RoE), but the German dub (which is exceedingly good!) is just the way it was shown to me... and... that's the form I got to looove.

– Who the hell thought Mari was a good idea? –

---
Okay. With that out of the way, I can return to what I was primarily going to write...

My intention with this work was especially to 'recreate' (one can argue on that...) the tremendous scene from NGE,  n-o-t  RoE (you may take a look at the amount of green lovely EVA-01 has (not) on it). Shinji knowing that someone is in that eva-angel and that this someone is Asuka LANGLEY SORYU (Shikinami??!) does not work as well as Toji's unknown involvement.

Similar to you, my father introduced me to EVA. I was 17 (in fact, I was born approximately one year before Shinji... which contributed a bit to identifying myself with him). Other than that, I was literally a Shinji in the years prior to seeing EVA for the first time (and I still am mildly) except for having a fucked-up dad (it's the opposite), missing the will to live or masturbating over comatose friends. EVA did not 'cure' me but it helped, I would say. Simple stuff like talking to unknown people (ridiculous, right?), trusting myself, opening myself up to someone (lowering my at-field) or just getting shit done (running away) were skills I did not possess. I am still working on it but that's fine, I guess. Identifying that there is something wrong is a good thing and the first step. Nobody said anything about step two. The last scene in EoE where we get to see Shinji and Misato together for the last time opened my eyes to certain extent.
--> Remember: There is only one true Waifu. Last name's first letter is a 'K'.
Katsuragi or Kusanagi??  ........

And there begins my passion towards Neon Genesis Evangelion. The influence it had on me... I love the series' original ending! Not only because I knew at the time that there is an alternative but rather because what the characters go through... what the narrating voices in episode 25 and 26 say. It all makes sense and got to me.

Next:
THE CHARACTERS: I want to hug them all. That's it. They are real and they are human. What is there to add?
THE MUSIC: The Soundtrack is astoundingly awesome. When I have breakfast, Misato's theme is playing. When I go to sleep, Fly Me To The Moon (ALL 31 versions), Rei's theme, Hedgehogs Dilemma, Barefoot In The Park, Ritsuko's theme, Yokan, Borderline Case, A Crystalline Night Sky, The Day Tokyo-3 Stood Still, Eternal Embrace, Those Women Longed For The Touch Of Others Lips, When I Find Peace Of Mind, Separation Anxiety, Introjection, Mother Is The First Other, Tokyo-3 etc. ....... can be heard. When I was coming back from school... do I have to type anymore? (Angel Attack, Nerv's theme, Decisive Battle, A Step Forward Into Terror, Normal Blood, Harbinger Of Tragedy, The Beast, Magmadiver aaaand Ode An Die Freude OF COURSE!!)

I adore EVA's OST (I didn't even started with End Of EVA's score): Music-Magic. Whoa, I got one more aspect of what I dislike about RoE: The new re-composed themes are a bit too 'synthesized' for my tastes. Too much drums fading...
Fun fact: I only bought Pacific Rim because people said it's similar to NGE, and let me tell you... it is not. At least not as much as I hoped it would.

EDIT:   - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
>  I saw the unboxing video... shortened Great figure! Great facial expression at the beginning! Are there Bionicles in the background?
>  I like those huge awkward silent pauses. I always thought they were made to make the recipient think and reflect on what he just saw... it worked for me, but all this could be greenness - again.
>  MERCHANDISE: I own three limited model high grades by Bandai: EVA-01, -02, -00' (the blue one). Those helped me during the sketch phase of this work.
> BEST OF EoE's Score: False Regeneration, Substitute Invasion, The Passage Of Emptiness, Thanatos - If I Can't Be Yours, Honeymoon With Anxiety, Expansion Of Blockade, Opening Of Dream and KOMM, SÜßER TOD (!!!)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Anyway, I forgot the rest I wanted to type down. I hope someone will read it (otherwise I'll do so myself... correcting grammar and stuff).
Just one last thing: Anyone who doesn't know about the AMV in which Evangelion is combined with Bohemian Rhapsody....

If you were a fan of Eva when D&R originally came out in 1997, then you'd have a taste of the absolute wrath that the fans had for Anno regarding THAT disaster (he literally got death threats between the last two episodes and that first movie!) and how they feel now about 3.0.  The original series was significantly hampered during production by the national shock of the Tokyo subway attack (their equivalent of America's 9/11 attack almost ten years later, btw), and fans have accepted that.

But considering the amount of time and money and effort spent between 2009 when 2.0 came out and 2013 when 3.0 came out, the fans were not nearly as forgiving in their condemnation of the latter.  (Indeed, I have my own beef with Rebuild- the largest of which is despite all that time, money and effort, they couldn't afford to give us any official look at my namesake before they blew it up!  I mean, blow it up if you must, but can't you even give us a photograph lying on a table or a pre-splosion camera angle during the post-splosion debrief, for fuck's sake???)  It got so bad in fact that Anno bounced into a third depression (the first leading to the creation of Eva, and the second after D&R was released), and Toho Co. had to practically BEG to get him out of bed to make Shin Godzilla.  So now, after clearing his head on the Big G, he's back to the final Rebuild film right now.
I saw 3.0 dubbed in an art house theater in 2015... and despite owning Funimation's BluRay release, I haven't seen it since nor do I place many compliments on it.

I know. I occupied myself a bit with that whole backstory of NGE. Doing a slight research concerning Hideaki Anno was one of the first things I did after I finished EoE. Thank you for that huge amount of info btw.  :]
Appreciated!

No matter how 'bad' something is or how dissatisfied one can be with what a person created - sending death threats to the somebody who made it is a  terrible crime. Neither George Lucas nor Hideaki Anno (the only two dudes I can think of right know) deserve being hated for the parts of their work which are considered unpleasant by some people. I mean, come on! All stooges who played a part in sending Sir Anno into another depression have neither shame nor esteem for others (!)

As a matter of fact (and as I already said), I like those last two episodes of the original show (regardless of the reason they were made). I think the message they beam into the world is time- and priceless. As I mentioned earlier as well, the Rebuilds (whose aren't even finished yet) are not that bad but also not as well-made as the show (which is kinda imprudent to demand). 3.33 has set a different tone, which is alright by me, and I'm curious where the last one will take us as an audience. As long as 4.44 / 3.0+1.0 is not finished, we shouldn't juge - but we do it anyway... that's humanity, I suppose

After the completion of Shin Godzilla, which is considered an 'attractive' movie, I think, Hideaki Anno is back doing EVA, and that's a good thing nonetheless. I can't wait for EVA to finally being ended. We should leave that man at peace... because... he's done already more for us than we can possibly imagine.
