I was a little disappointed it didn't win best animated feature; it would have gained a lot more exposure.  But definitely agree, it's a film that deserves to be seen on Bluray!  It's too bad I didn't get to see this movie as a 9 year old, it's probably twice as magical through young eyes.  And many thanks for the kind words

True, but there are a lot of subtleties you would have missed as a child, like the father and his mother's relationship concerning his grief portrayed through the spirits, among other things. And yes, the other movie winning over this subtle and far more original work just baffles my mind. It and "Kells" were a fresh surprise that will outlast. But honestly, those awards are revealed through events like that that it's all one big popularity contest.

Good point!  I guess there are two sides to every viewpoint.  Agreed about the popularity contest aspect of it.  I've long since disregarded those awards as anything important, except for the fact that the winners generally get a lot more attention and exposure which is good for business.  As long as they keep making movies!

No worries, I have this thought many times when trying to grasp the way I used to see anything I rewatch now, feeling that loss of innocent perspective. It's a pang, I'll admit.

Pixar surely didn't need the recognition, didn't need the popularity vote, exposure, and I don't feel they earned what Song of the Sea's company accomplished. Yep, I'll be happy so long at they still make more than enough to continue their passion and live comfortable enough while doing so.

Good talking with you!
