Description
Name: ChiAge: approx. 3-4
Gender: Male
Species: Orange/cream Pomeranian
Mate/Pups: None; he's neutered.
Personality: Very friendly and rather "bouncy". He's quick to form tight loyal bonds with any caregiver/leader and is more of a follower than a leader, happy to submit, though he will try to defend said caregiver/leader if necessary. He always works hard to please them--sometimes a little too hard, desperate for praise. He's naturally rather insecure and needs constant reassurance of his place, and he often feels that he has to overwork to achieve that. That being said, he dosen't usually think too much before following a command. Due to his small size, his defenses tend to be more verbal; his bark is worse than his bite. Also because of being small, he can't defend himself on the streets very well and is somewhat "clingy" with the his caregiver/leader, becoming restless and anxious if he is left alone for too long.
Likes: Amy, Casser, being paid attention to, pleasing his caregivers/leaders, being praised.
Dislikes: Being ignored, being small, feeling left out of or at the bottom of the pecking order.
Fears: Being left alone.
History: Born in a breeding facility, Chi was adopted at about 8 weeks old. He went home with a six-year-old girl named Amy to live with her and her small family in a comfy apartment just outside a busy city. Chi lived there with Amy for two years and the two grew very close. He was happy to learn and preform tricks for Amy and her friends and he often slept at the foot of the child's bed if not cuddled up next to her. He was always delighted by her laughter and attention and the two loved to play together. Unfortunately, though, when Amy was eight, her father's company had been relocated to a city a few states away, and the most affordable apartment complex didn't allow dogs. Amy was distraught by the news, wanting to reject it and insisting that they needed to go to a more expensive house so that they could keep Chi. As things went, however, a more expensive house just would not work out. Amy had to let the situation sink in as she cried it out in her bedroom. Chi was there to comfort her, not quite understanding what was going on. He licked the tears off the child's face, let her stroke and pet him, preformed tricks. Yet the girl was still sad, and he just could not understand why, nor did it really make sense to him why over the next week or so, everything in the house was moved to boxes...
The day that Chi was moved to the smelly, noisy shelter was perhaps the most traumatic day of his life. Though he was normally a social dog, the dogs and here seemed crowded and panicked. They barked, shoved, howled, and paced. Chi, being by far of of the smallest there, felt shoved and pushed and even scared. But worst of all, he couldn't find Amy. She was gone, and the hardest of all the chaos was the gaping hole in his heart where his two-year-old bond and loyalty to Amy tried to cling, only making the hard floor below his paws colder and the dull air heavier and more rank as his heart burned with disappointment.
Chi lay awake even after most of the other shelter dogs had fallen asleep, gazing out of the small crack below the wall in his "cell". The crack was too small for dogs to squeeze through, even him, but it did give him a look into the outside and a whiff of fresh air. It reminded him vaguely of the window in Amy's room, sitting at it, just slightly open, with her on those cool summer nights. He sighed with the memories and a shiver crept down his spine. He was alone now--yes, he had the other dogs in the shelter, but there was something different about them; something menacing, something chaotic. They'd been trapped up in here too long, and even with that, Chi didn't know where they might have been before that. Strays? Loners? Outcasts? Any of the above might fit.
But then a voice broke him out of his thoughts. Gazing back out the crack, he saw a pair of green eyes staring back at him.
The eyes, as it turned out, belonged to a stay named Casser. The scrawny mutt was just over twice the size of Chi with a scraggly gray coat. He offered that if Chi came out, he could join him. Chi's first response was that the crack was too tiny; even a dog as small as he was wouldn't be able to squeeze through it. Casser responded by scrapping some dirt away just outside the crack. Chi's eyes widened as he realized that it would be just big enough for him to fit through. He thought about it for a moment. He was a bit unsure about Casser, but he really did want to get away from the chaos of the shelter, and Casser had offered a place with him.
So he escaped.
Chi's concerns about Casser faded within the next few days. The wily stray broke a lot of typical rules, but he did provide protection of Chi and had helped the small dog escape the smelly, noisy shelter. Chi began to see Casser as his savior, in a way, and started to bond with him much like he did with Amy. Old respect for human rules vanished as he eagerly followed Casser, who in his mind was now the alpha, and was always particularly willing to please the mutt. He became a bit of a henchman for Casser, carrying messages to other local stays and ferociously defending his "packmate", even if only with words.
However, after loosing Amy, Chi was determined not to loose another "caretaker". Even when he was sent to spread messages, he tried to be no more than a block away from Casser, and when Casser left HIM for periods of time, for reasons often unbeknownst to Chi, the little Pomeranian became fretful and nervous, developing almost a sort of separation anxiety from his new alpha. Life on the streets was tough for a small lapdog and though he tried his best to please Casser in every way he could, but he knew that he was depending on the stray. Dependent or not, though, and however rebellious Casser seemed to be, Chi was willingly and happily loyal and at his side.
.oOo.
So anyways. I've been making ref. sheets for all my remaining characters...the canine ones, at least. The largest canine "group" I retained were Casser/Saimur/Raejin; I think there are one or two other free-floating characters I kept to develop later. Ah well.
That aside, the point is that the main reason I have as many characters as I do is that I have so many that have to tie in to one big complex plot. This particular one is the second-biggest that I still work with, the first being a little project that I've been working on for...oh, I think it's five years now? Yeah, about 5 years entitled "Werewolves of the Wandering Moon", but most of those characters are more often pictured in their humanoid forms, and therefore...not canine. XD
So this little guy is now my newest character. Took me a few hours to get this base line down for him--NOT five minutes! Characters take time. >.>
That being said, he'll further develop as time goes on. He was created as an entry to a contest on AnimationSource about who can create "the most unique canid character". At first I wanted to send in one of my already-created characters--Casser came to mind--but the rules stated that it had to be a new character. Well, I've been considering making "henchman"ish character for Casser, anyways, so I seized the opprotunity.
Whalla. Here's Chi.
