Description
Hi, Well I went out for a short time this afternoon. The sky is getting cloudy, and we might have some rain later today. While out this morning, I noticed a lack of big Monarch Caterpillars, well this is why. I found this one just starting to form a Chrysalis. You can see the anchor points on the left part of the pic...silken threads...that the Chrysalis will hang from. Also, the Caterpillar has a different look to it.. a waxy look, compared to normal.I marked the location of this one in my GPS and I put up a marker twig, so I can easily find it over the next 8 - 15 days, about the average time it takes for the process to be complete. I really want t get a pic of it just emerged, with folded up wings..then I will have a 100% complete cycle in my gallery... Egg, Caterpillar, Chrysalis, "just emerged", and one hardening the wings for flight. I'm missing just the Emerged pic.
I just hope it doesn't happen while I'm at work, like the last one I found a few years ago...
Here it is on the next day...
