Description This was a joint project intended to exemplify humanity's modern disconnection from Nature. The hunter is wearing modern clothes and exists in a modern setting, yet is using primitive weapons and techniques to 'survive' in a world which has been all but destroyed by Man's inability to live in harmony with the planet.

The wolf in the image is called Teva. She's my personal headdress. She and her sister were both removed from a population in Southeast Alaska by a friend of mine who works with the State Fish and Wildlife Department in population control.

Once Teva was tanned so that she could not rejoin the Earth, I purchased her to make her into the headdress above. Due to some damage to the leather and a missing rear foot, her hide was not deemed suitable for traditional taxidermy and would be otherwise bound for the fur market to be made into clothing instead.

She is the first wolf I ever mounted, and I’m very pleased with the way she turned out considering. From start to finish, it seemed that Teva’s creation from tanned pelt to finished headdress came together like a dream.

Photography by Teddy Anderson. Editing and taxidermy by me.

Take it up with the person who killed the wolf.

You are a beautiful amazing person and I saw your comment to that girl on Tumblr and I'd just like to say you're awesome.
Also, I love this headdress. This is the prettiest headdress I have ever seen *standing ovation*

You make me want to get back into archery <3

Btw, brilliant idea. Are you two going to make this into a print book perhaps? Or sell the prints at all? Maybe make posters or something?

Not sure what I'll do with the prints. For now, they're just for online sharing and such.

Well, if you ever have them in a booklet or in a separate series, you have a buyer here! Also, about bear, how did he leave the military?

NaturePunk In reply to Wolf-Reaper [2012-08-15 22:43:13 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Will keep that in mind.
Bear got out on medical discharge. He's had issues with breathing and joint problems in his knees which made it near impossible for him to continue his training without it being detrimental to his health. Unfortunately, the military didn't want to pay for his medical expenses and cycle him back through training again, so they dropped him on honorable discharge.

I'm glad it was honorable. I've heard of cases like that and they just drop them, not honorable or sometimes even giving them dishonorable. My husband is on the verge of being chaptered cause of weight issues. His BMI is always measured wrong because they use the same method from WWI, so its outdated. We've had this scare before, but this friday is a do or die. I think it will be an honorable discharge. Does he get anything for it? Did he ever get his GI bill? If he did, did he get to keep it? We're worried because Hubby has EMT training, but he wants to go to school for other skills and we'd need the GI bill.

He got paid for his time, but no GI bill. I'm supporting both of us for now as he hunts for a new job.

Very nice picture! I just think that I need to see more of the "modern" side to get the full effect. I don't see much except for the "primitive" side. Other than that, though, the headdress and pose is lovely.

NaturePunk In reply to pieladyUSA [2012-08-15 04:45:15 +0000 UTC]

The clothes are certainly modern. The setting is, too. It was once a foresty area until they built an iron smelter in the area and took the topsoil off the bedrock, which is what you're seeing in the shot - that's why it's all rocky and smooth instead of covered in ferns and mud like the rest of the area. Of course, that's not something the casual viewer is likely to know, but the point still stands.

She certainly was a cutie. It's a shame she had to be killed for population control, but such is life. She lives on in the beauty that is your headdress
