Continuation of Just a Friend
Act 3, Scene 1:
Naruto and Sakura both sat in their rooms, looking at a recent photograph of them. For both of them that picture meant a lot as it changed everything.
Naruto (thinks): 'I wonder if you even have this picture still, Sakura-chan. You always did say that that day was nothing but a couple of friends hanging out, but I always thought of it as a date.'
Act 3, Scene 2:
Naruto was sitting in his apartment early in the morning, eating breakfast when casually dressed Sakura walked in.
Naruto: "Sakura-chan? What are you doing here so early and how did you get in?"
Sakura (raises eyebrow): "I told you we were spending the day together, remember? And, you gave me a spare key ages ago, Naruto."
Naruto (taps chin thoughtfully): "Oh yeah, I remember now. I didn't think you were serious."
Sakura: "And, why not?"
Naruto: "Well...You usually want to go to the library or something on your days off."
Sakura: "Are you saying you'd rather I go to the library than spend the day with me?"
Naruto: "NO! (clears throat awkwardly) I-I mean, no. I'd love to spend the day with you."
Sakura (nods satisfied): "Good, then get dressed and meet at the Hokage Monument in half an hour and don't pull a Kakashi-sensei and be late, got it? There's a special going on for pictures today and I want to get ours taken."
Naruto (looks confused): "Why?"
Sakura: "Because, Stupid, I only have our team photo from three years ago, so I'd like at least a current picture of us. Plus I just want a few photos with my best friend okay. Well, my best guy friend."
Naruto (looks nervous): "If you say so..."
Sakura: "Good, I'll meet you there. Remember half an hour and don't be late."
Sakura walked out of the apartment and Naruto waited a few minute before he cheered.
Naruto: "ALRIGHT, I'VE GOT A DATE WITH SAKURA-CHAN!"
Act 3, Scene 3:
Sakura silently waited for Naruto to arrive, she'd never tell Naruto but she was really looking forward to this. Lately, there's been this tension between them and she wanted to see if it went anywhere. She saw Naruto running up to her and her jaw dropped. Naruto was wearing a very fancy suit.
Naruto (wheezing): "I...I hope I'm not late, Sakura-chan!"
Sakura: "Naruto, why are you wearing that?"
Naruto: "What? Kakashi-sensei said it was a good idea to wear one for a date."
Sakura (look embarrassed): "This isn't a date, Stupid!"
Inner Sakura: "Hell yeah it's a date! CHA!"
Sakura: "This is a just a couple of close friends hanging out. Come on, Naruto, take off the suit."
Naruto looked saddened, but did as he was told and took the suit off. He was luckily wearing a black muscle shirt underneath it.
Inner Sakura (giggles pervertedly): "Now he just needs to take off that shirt! CHA!"
Sakura (blushes red): "C-Come on, Stupid, we have to get in line before it's too late!"
Naruto (grabs her hand): "I can't wait."
Sakura (blush deepens as she looks her hand): "Just because I let you hold my hand, doesn't mean it's a date, got it?!"
Inner Sakura: "OH MY GOD! HE'S HOLDING MY HAND! (Shrieks in glee) CHA!"
Act 3, Scene 4:
Sakura (chuckles quietly): "That whole day I kept telling you it wasn't a date, but you didn't listen did you? Or, maybe you did in the end. Could this wonderful day have been the beginning of the end? Did I give up my chance here?"
Unknown voice: "Sakura, what's the matter?"
Sakura looked up to see her mother Mebuki and noticed how blurry her eyes were. She quickly wipes her eyes but it's too late.
Sakura: "It's nothing, Mom."
Mebuki: "Sakura, I taught you better than to lie to me."
Sakura: "I'm...It's not important, Mom, really."
Mebuki: "Sakura, is it Naruto?"
Sakura (flinches): "Naruto? Why would Naruto matter?"
Mebuki (raises eyebrow): "Oh? And, what happened to your morning declaration that today will be the day that you will finally confess to him, hm? Oh yes, Sakura, these walls aren't quite as soundproof as you think."
Sakura (looks down sad): "There's no point confessing."
Mebuki: "And, why's that?"
Sakura: "He told me himself that he only sees me as a friend."
Mebuki hums quietly and picks up the picture of Naruto and Sakura that Sakura had been looking at.
Mebuki (runs hand over the frame): "You know, it was this picture that made me really consider that you might be in love with that boy. I didn't really know what to think at the time. I've long gotten over my prejudice, but I really didn't know him that well. When I saw this smile, one of your first genuine smiles in a long time, I think it was then I started rooting for you two."
Sakura (tears in her eyes): "Well, I'm sorry I wasted your time, Mom."
Mebuki (grabs Sakura in a hug): "Oh, honey, I know you feel like there's this part of your heart that's empty right now, but it'll be okay."
Sakura (crying): "How?! How can it be okay without Naruto?! I...I really love him, Mom! I can't even think of a future without him! WHY CAN WE ONLY BE FRIENDS?!"
Mebuki hugged her, petting her head, whispering words of comfort to her until Sakura fell asleep in her arms.
