Rumination of RuinationHe was not normally one to dwell upon matters of the past. Events of one day were disregarded the next, not to be remembered unless it was a lesson to boost his skills and prowess. Yet for days afterwards, the events of the Nombeko and Shadow battle continued to haunt him, the shrieks and screams of pain still ringing in his ears, stench of blood and scalded flesh still ripe in his nostrils. It was the first time he had ever participated in such wholesale slaughter in his life, and with whispers of the Raven Woman turning her cruel eyes to the north, to the Linx… it would seem he would soon face such battle again.
It was not the pain nor the terror of it all that made him so wary of it, no. It was the needless slaughter, the waste of so much life that nature gorged and gorged to fullness, yet still so many bodies littered the ground yet untouched by scavengers already fat on the carcasses of others. He was a hunter by nature, true, but he hunted what he needed to survive the hars
