Well, I've been playing it myself for the first time, so I don't really know how much Groose is going to develop beyond the big jock who was always picking on Link...
(So far, I just reached Earth Temple in the Eldin Volcano area... to be continued this weekend, having re-entered before my latest save. Before ending my session last Sunday evening, I just popped back to Skyloft to get my Iron Shield patched up and empty my fully-filled wallet on some items that may be useful - sure to be plenty of Rupees to replace them inside the temple...)

It's kind of hard to say yet.
Groose seems a funny jerk in his way, Zelda's cute and I barely got to know most of the other sky folk. And Ghirahim certainly made quite an entrance!
I like the Mogmas too...
