Wow its been a while since I have done some Pirate fanart! Yesterday (and today) I was feeling very low. Missing my papa something awful and generally having "one of THOSE days" where everything just seemed to have been against me.So I drew this while I was at work at Disney and I am quite happy with the outcome! Even my teacher likes it, he says I have beautiful illustrations and line work.
Anyways, this is Jack Sparrow and *le gasp* PIRATE Captain James Norrington! I had this lovely idea that after he is exiled from the Navy, he does pick himself off of the dirty floor of self resentment and becomes another one of those regal and epic pirate captains of the Spanish Main.
He has a ship of his own (Called the Serafina) and he is known to be a fiercely talented captain. He definitely travels in style with his embroidered focks and giant hats.
He's traveled on board the Black Pearl with a map and a bag of gold dubloons, I think he's trying to conspire Jack to help him out in some kind of scheme. He's more like the Batman of the ocean, taking out baddies for the Royal Navy but still has a target painted on his head.

"The Batman of the ocean." I can't even begin to tell you how hard that made me laugh - and then promise myself to use that comparison somehow in polite conversation.
I agree with your teacher, your linework is...understandable. Does that make sense? It flows and has detail and makes sense - it isn't swamped by too much or naked with too little.

I love this picture, especially Jack's expression, but don't you know it's bad luck to have a ship's name end in an A? Seamen object to any name ending in the letter a. The sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 reinforced this superstition.

How interesting, no I had not heard of that superstition before. Very cool. But it works for this because meeting up with pirate!Norrington IS bad luck! You are screwed if you meet up with him!

Ha, I believe that. But yeah, there's a LOT of superstition you probably haven't heard yet. My favorite, I think, Is that you can't step onto a ship left foot first, and don't sneeze to the left, either!

Indeed. Norrington can be many things I believe - he is not just a commodore. And yes, he would make a fine privateer indeed. But I also think that since he is such a proud man, that the blow dealt to him by the navy would have made impossible for himself to ever go back. Even as a pirvateer, just dealing with them, being inferior to his position before would kill his spirit.
This is why I think he would do well under the title of '
And... I don't know, for some reason I just think that Norrington would fill out the batman suit really well

Ooh, what you say about him and the Navy is true... though I really could picture him as a Sir Frances Drake sort of person.. oh! What if he became part of the Spanish navy or something???
