Description
I've updated my Sailor Princess lineup again from the version 2.0 that I had done two years ago. This is 2.1 because I've kept the same poses from the version before, but have updated, improved and changed the girls a bit since that time. Mostly it was cleaning up the lineart, getting better at drawing faces and updating the girls' costumes a bit.2.0 Reboot: [link]
Now other awesome women *could* potentially be in this lineup: Maid Marion from Robin Hood and Meg from Hercules. Depending on the story you hear, they are princesses. Unfortunately, in the Disney versions (which is what I'm going off of here) they are not labeled as such and so they are not included.
And on the same note I added Pocahontas to the lineup because Tiger Lilly from Peter Pan is called Princess and so should Pocahontas also be a princess. And before I even think of adding women with dubious entitlement, consider the six bonafide princess who are NOT in this: Ariel's sisters.
Hope that clears up some confusion.
I frequently get asked "Who is Nancy?" Nancy is from the 2007 Disney film Enchanted. She is a hard working woman who gets pulled into Andalasia, a cartoon land with a man called Prince Edward. They fall in love and get married. [link]

It seems to be impossible to draw any compilation of the Disney princesses without having people tell who should be in your drawing and who shouldn't. If you only draw the ones who are confirmed to be princesses people start asking for Mulan or some other girls, but if you go by the "Disney Princess" franchise lineup (or just draw Disney ladies you happen to like) you'll have people educating you that so-and-so is not a princess as if you couldn't possibly have noticed it from the movie yourself (regardless of what you might have said on the issue in the description in either of the cases already). You just can never get it right...
I'm a big fan of "draw series X in series Y style" art so this picture was interesting to me by default, but this has to be one of the best takes on the subject I've seen. Usually people seem to just recolour the default sailor suit or just draw the princesses dressed up as Sailor Moon and co so it's great to see how your designs are all different and faithful to the princesses original design but still look like Sailor moon outfits.
I'd love to see Merida in this (or any other Disney character you'd sailormoon'ify for that matter).
It's a shame the picture isn't any bigger though and you have to go through the individual drawins one by one if you want to see all of them properly.

Yes, it's a damn shame that there are some that can't accept that some girls are princesses and some are not.
If I went by the offical Disney princesses, half of these people wouldn't be in it, but they are legit princesses. I believe the title of princess, when it comes to Disney, just means lead female. Jasmine may be the exception to that rule because, while she is not the lead character, she is a princess in the film. I think that's why Mulan is considered an offical Disney princess, while she is not technically a princess, she's a lead.
To anyone who has a problem with my line-up: Don't think I haven't done the research. Don't think I don't know these movies like I know the back of my hand. I can watch these films behind my eyelids, quote word for word, know every song. I'm a Disney Child. I worked in the Parks. I've been to the studio multiple times trying to get a job there. I know this shit.
But I enjoy the thinking that is involved with princesses. I like that this little project of mind has got people discussing Disney, cause, I can't lie, it's one of my favorite subjects out there!
I'm not sure if I'll add Brave yet, but it's mostly because it's a Pixar film so she is like... a cousin to the Disney Princesses. I don't know. We'll see.

I've always thought of it just as "female lead in a movie that makes a lot of $$$ and who can be drawn in a dress that appeals to the little girls who buy the merchandise".
But I've seen rants on how practically every female Disney character from Bambi's girlfriend to the girl in the Brother Bear sequel should be in the official disney princess lineup...

Thank you so much! I impress myself with how far they've come since the beginning. It's been a super fun project, doing these.
As for sequel princesses, I haven't seen that many Disney sequels? I don't know what other princesses are out there, but before I would even get to them, I'd first need to do Ariel's sisters are they are all princesses, all have names, speaking parts and generally, under my terms, count as princesses.

Oh yes of course, six more at least then. Haha, I can't even image having that many daughters. I really would understand why you would just like to leave the girls here. As for sequels there is Melody, Ariel's daughter, and um, the girls from Mulan 2. Ehhh there might be more but whatever. On another nte I really love your style! Its quite amazing!

And what is the rank of the gods Zeus? They have to have a leader, a boss, A KING, any kind of nomenclature, not to mention that Hera uses a crown, which shows that it is probably a queen. I agree that it is something much larger, since they are gods, plus they also have to have a king. I still find unjust exclusion of Megara on this list, she is a princess, she married Hercules and this makes her a Disney Princess.

No, honey. That's not how we do it here. I applaud you for fightin so hard, and I honest to God (not king, not king-god or anything else) believe what you're saying. But a god is not a king. He is a god. A king is something that mortals gave to themselves. A hierarchy of mere mortals in terms of Greek Mythos. Love that your fightin it, but Hercules is beyond a prince. To make him a lowly prince is a dis-service to him. Meg IS a princess in her own right because her father IS a king. But since she is a regular girl in the film, she doesn't count. Do you get what I'm saying? Hercules doesn't count because he is above and beyond the parameters of this. Megara isn't included because she's a regular human being. She's a badass, no question, but she doesn't fit my terms.
And lets remember this: this is MY lineup. You have all the power in the world to make your own.

It was a way of speaking, I would say he is portrayed as a prince in the movie as much mythology, most anyway, if this list this Pocahontas by her father to be the chief of the tribe, Meg must also be because she Hercules married and the father of Hercules is the chief of the gods, or no?

NautilusL2 In reply to EduFerreiraOFC [2012-10-11 02:47:05 +0000 UTC]
No....... see. sigh. Ok. He's a god and a son of a god. But he's not a prince. Zeus is not a king. These are not terms used to represent these mythological beings. Zeus is not called King Zeus, Apollo is not Prince Apollo, Athena is not Princess Athena. They are gods and their name is only what they need, they are so so SOOO much bigger than kinghoods and princedoms and... and mortal titles. Being a King/prince/queen is a mortal, human thing. It is below a god.
If you step back from "Oh well, Meg should be a princess because Hercules is a God" you would see that Megara in her own right already IS a princess in some telling of the mythology. She is the daughter of King Creon. But since I am going off of what Disney calls them and ONLY what Disney calls them, Megara is not considered a princess because she wasn't in the Disney film.
The special allowance I make for Pocahontas is I find it wrong to include one Native American Princess (Tiger Lily) and not the other. That's it. Tiger Lily is called Princess Tiger Lily and she is the daughter of the chief. Pocahontas a daughter of a chief. Hence, she the term princess by association.

Both the film and the mythology, Hercules is portrayed as the "prince of the gods", like his father, Zeus, becomes the king of the gods. In my opinion he is a prince, just like Pocahontas is a princess, she is the daughter of the tribal chief, he's the leader of the gods, then he too should be classified here as a prince, and then, a princess Megara.

Nice argument, and I'll believe you if you can give me an excerpt from the film Hercules or a link from Youtube of the film, that has anyone tell Hercules he is a "prince." If you can find it, actual, factual evidence that he is called a prince in the film, I'll accept it.
Unfortunately, I'm 99.99999% they don't call him a prince in the movie.

I think Megara is a Disney princess because she marries Hercules in the TV series and he happens to be a prince, or not?
You also have the Princess Atta from The Bugs Life, she is a real princess, no?

Megara in greek mythology is a princess but in the Disney film she is not. She wouldn't be a princess because Hercules is not a prince; he's a god. Bugs Life is a Pixar film and I've thought it over and decided not to include Pixar princesses.

on Sailor Princess Aurora why not put pink and blue
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NautilusL2 In reply to BethanyJo1001 [2012-09-24 22:09:13 +0000 UTC]
Good question! I have an answer for you. 1st version was a mixture of pink and blue and more similar to the hodge-podge mess when Flora and Merriweather went crazy with the spells in the cottage. I didn't think it looked particularily good. So tried mixing it up as Blue being her main color and pink her secondary. But in neither dress is it blue with pink or pink with blue.
Now I know that Disney loves to put her in the pink dress, but if you watch the film, the final color dress the Aurora receives as her birthday present is blue. She goes the entire second half of the film in a blue dress. The only time it turns to pink while on her is when she and Prince Philip are dancing. Yet even then, the movie ends with them being turned as a page from a book and the last you see of her, she is in blue.
So blue is the color I associate with Aurora. Disney put her in pink so that Cinderella could wear the blue dress.... and her dress isn't blue, it's silver. Disney takes a lot of leaps with color. Hope that answers your question!
