I'm curious about your choice of fruit bats? Why didn't you go for a more classical species?

What do you mean by "classical"? I chose flying foxes for their size, mostly. I love bats, and despite being a shameless goth in all my aesthetic preferences I don't find bats scary or creepy or any of the other negative things associated with them. Β People are unfairly afraid of them. They are beautiful creatures, so fascinating and cool to watch and learn about. They're important, too. Β And I personally find most of them pretty darn cute.

I guess what I meant was that smaller echolocating bats are more common to creepy, horror or mystical settings. Not to mention colder regions. Fruit bats belong in the tropics. They roost in trees and not in caves. They are also to my best understanding somwhat bigger in relation to humans than you've made them out to be here, they are after all commonly known as megabats.
however I do agree that they look cool and aside from my nitpicking I really like your painting.
