Description It’s liberating to finish this one. I’ve had the image in my head literally for years, and the painting itself has meandered along since the winter. It's also the first image I've completed that wasn't for work or study in a very long time.

Available as an open edition print & as a limited edition giclee .

Painter and Photoshop CS4.

This is a pretty interesting piece. The hidden figure is subtle but once the eye finds it, it's hard to look away. I also enjoy the subtle wound and it makes me wonder why it's there. In reference to Christ, or maybe referencing a mythology? Hm.

The wound is a reference to the Greek myth of Prometheus, who had his liver eaten out daily by an eagle as punishment for giving fire to mortals. [link]

Oh right. I studied Greek mythology when I was younger but I had forgotten about that one...that and where exactly the liver is in the body. XD

This is wonderful! A little scary to look at, really, but I suppose that adds to the deadly beauty of the jellyfish.

This is so incredible! You so perfectly created the illusion of glowing--those jelly fishes look so believably like they would be found in the deepest oceans. And of course the male figure is a wonderful mix creepy and beautiful. And I just noticed the jelly twisting itself around his arm. Fantastic!

Best. Image. Yet. Seriously, this is rocking me hard. GREAT job, Lauren!! It reminds me slightly of Donato Giancola, and that is not a bad thing at all. Love the bleeding fig best. You didn't overplay it. Just...just superb. (Have I gushed enough now?)

Donato's 'Golden Rose' image is one of my all time favorites, so yes--a nod in his direction for sure. I am trying to work up the courage to send it to him, hahaha. D:

Thanks

I think the jelly fishes are a bit too overpowering. And it looks like they're in space rather than water (Which might be whats intended.)

Other than these 2 lil things, its Awesome!!!

This came out beautiful! And interesting to see this theme moved into an aquatic surrounding... quite a different take on Prometheus!

Great painting. I especially like the little pieces floating in the water with all the Jellyfish. Around the Merman plus good job on the blood. It actually looks like it's in actual water
