I've always wondered what motivated Wheatley to turn evil. I know it was seemingly power, but what if it was also something else?Β
Resentment, perhaps?

Maybe it was to prove something to GLaDOS, Chell--and himself. "I'm not a moron..." He was insecure about himself because he's been ribbed, mocked and discouraged his entire life. Taking the chassis was, perhaps, like opening a door to a whole new way of living. Freedom from the attacks of others, knowledge beyond compare, total control--so no one could hurt him when he didn't expect it.
And yet GLaDOS still mocked him.
I think this was why he turned. He was proud, he felt valuable, he was so happy...and GLaDOS continued to call him a moron--which he definitely wasn't. The sort of despair that followed most likely drove him completely mad, the poor fellow.
