Description
As chilling winds sweep down from the Ozark mountains and through the trees, loosening and swirling around red and gold leaves, riders at CandleWick scurry around the stables taking advantage of the lovely weather. Though the barn is only half full, and there is plenty of room for new additions, our trainers must remember all the work that must be done with the 16 horses already boarded here. Regular lessons have become family events, the clubhouse is constantly buzzing with people around the coffee machine and fire pit, horses gallop together with brisk steps in the middle of their expansive pastures, and trail rides have never been more beautiful. CandleWick seems to be the center of all equestrian life and activity during the fall. We welcome all new visitors to put their stamp on the property and our little community by depicting their visit here! News is traveling quickly throughout the stable and even non-stable members of the CW Fall and Halloween Extravaganza. More details are to follow in the stable journal on how you may join in on the fun!
Other than decorating for this event, and putting all the plans together, regular training proceeds as well. The five horses you see in the photos above are as listed from left to right: Pica de Galla ridden by Savannah Hill , Cross Check ridden by Ariel Bakers , Expression ridden by Jamie Rians , Blown A Fuse lunged by Ashley Embark, Ariel Bakers teaching lesson for Pepperloosa ridden by Braden Miles.
Savannah and Pica are cooling down after their short lesson. Savannah has been prepping the Andalusian mare for an upcoming fall dressage show. Though the mare has natural ability, Savannah is afraid she won't be able to hone in on it due to her own lack of experience on higher levels. She is debating to have Ariel do some last minute sessions with the two of them just to so she feels prepared. In addition, Savannah and her friend Robin are SO looking forward to Extravaganza that she is already scoping out the field and edge of the woods for reasons unknown at this point... What purpose would she have there?
As we all know, Cross Check entered his first jumping class over the summer and came back with a 9th place under his belt! Though this was great for just his first time out in the class, Ariel couldn't help but feel a little discouraged over hardly breaking the top ten. Therefore, she has asked her fellow trainer, Jamie, to help them spiff up their ability over the fences. Of course Jamie reverted to her lovely Thoroughbred eventer, Expression, to really show them how it's done. They chose to ride in the indoor this day as mismatch sets of jumps were already set up. The 3 feet high hurdles were at the extremely high end of Check's range, but as they stood and watched, it was easy to grasp just how easy they were for Express as he popped over them with minimal effort. They had a long ways to go...
Fuse has really grown into those long, limber legs he had as a colt. Amara realized over the months just what a good decision it's been to keep him a stallion. His mind has developed tremendously and he has a curiosity for everything new and exciting in the barn. Unfortunately, this makes him EXTREMELY hard to handle sometimes, and the number of times he's broken from his handler is up to 6! This has no effect on just how stunning he has become, though. A shiny golden coat shimmers under the warm, autumn sun, and the sheen off of his black mane and tail are just the kiss of darkness he needs to complete his devilish personality. When he gets to work, though, the results are phenomenal... just as Ashley witnessed when she began longeing him on a daily basis to develop his gaits more clearly, as shown here. He will certainly be one to watch if you are looking for an up-and-coming stud!
Finally we have a group lesson! Well, kind of... The Miles kids share little Pepperloosa and absolutely love the mare to death and take lessons every Saturday afternoon on her while their parents, Cindy and Austin, go on one of their frequent trail rides. Braden is always the last one to ride, considering he's younger than both Megan and Hannah. Ariel, who has been their instructor since the family arrived, has began to notice that he would much prefer to ride western like his dad. While the two girls played and explored different ant hills outside the indoor arena, Ariel talked to him about what he really wants to do when he rides. His first comment was that he wanted to be a country boy because he thought it was manlier. Ariel nodded and smiled and considered talking to his parents about getting Taylor Marshall to teach him instead. Though she is a bit of a rough and tumble girl, she started out riding western and might just be the perfect match for cowboy wanna-be Braden.
